I just had a new dish network system installed. It is a 4-room system setup (2 receivers each with dual tuners) I have 4 series 2 standalone Tivo's at home. The 2 Tivo's that are connected to tuner 1 on each receiver work fine, however when connecting the coax cable from tuner 2 to the tivo box and then out via RCA to the TV I get no TV. If I connect everything coax (ie. coax in, coax out to tv), I get satellite but reception is crappy, however Tivo doesn't work because the satellite has to be on channel 60 and tivo tuned for either channel 3 or 4. If I go from the 2nd tuner from satellite receiver directly into my TV (bypassing Tivo) everything works great.

My question is if there is a way to get this to work. The coax cable coming out of the receiver (tuner 2)... I was thinking if I bought a coax to rca adapter or converter then I could go into Tivo via RCA and out to TV RCA. Any Thoughts?

Thanks,

The RCA lines carry different parts of the video/audio signal.

The coax lines carry EVERYTHING in one hunk, converted to a TV channel.

You can't feed a TV channel into any of the RCA inputs on the TiVo. (The RCA jacks cannot accept an RF signal. They're only meant for audio or video signals, depending on which particular RCA jack you're talking about.)

If your satellite boxes can only feed tuner 2 out on channel 60, what channel 60 is it? Cable channel 60? UHF over-the-air channel 60?

If tuner 2 can only be received by a device tuned to channel 60, and can only be sent out by RF, then you're going to have to either

1) ask Dish if they have some other type of box that will let you use A/V outputs for both tuners (or feeds tuner 2 out on channel 3 or 4), or

2) you're going to have to leave your TiVo set on channel 60 all the time (whichever channel 60 it is), and do all manual recordings off channel 60, and somehow change the DISH box manually.

I've really never heard of anyone having this type of problem, but I'm no expert.

Maybe others can help, or maybe there's a fancy hack the guys in the underground forum know of?

The way the Dish receiver works is as follows:

Tuner 1 coax - works on channel 3 or 4
Tuner 2 coax - works on channel 60

The receiver also has RCA outputs for tuners 1 and 2, which I feel like would solve my problem, however my second tv and tivo is upstairs and the only way I have to get from receiver to other bedroom is via coax. I was thinking if I went out of the receiver via RCA on tuner 2 (convert to coax) then back to rca into the tivo but I don't know if they make such a device.

The other question you had about channel 60 . The dish network system works off uhf (for tuner2) but the tivo is tuned for channel 3 or 4 so it will not work on channel 60.

I just did some research on internet and found a couple websites that said a VCR would take a RF(coaxial) signal and convert it. I tried this earlier today with no success. I took the coax from tuner 2 of the dish receiver and went into the VCR, then went out of the VCR via RCA to the Tivo but had no success this way either. I can see the tivo screen but the video didn't pass thru. So basically I can use all Tivo functions, just not able to record anything because no live tv.

I found this but not sure how it would work.

go to radioshack website and do search on product id 2103580

Since the coax carries video and audio, I'm not sure what to do with the rca side. I wouldn't be ablt to plug into both video/audio inputs on the tivo.
