I'm new to this forum. I've done a search for this issue and read back about 15 pages, but didn't find anything on point, so I hope someone can answer this question.
I just received a HR10-250 from DirecTV (I'll tell you below how I got it for free). It is installed using the HDMI output to my TV, and (for some reason) both the optical sound and RCA sound jacks are both connected to my receiver (it was installed by DirecTV installer). I also have an off-air antenna connected for local HD channels.
My problem: The unit seems to work just fine -- but when I turn off my TV and Receiver (I never turn off the HD10), and then go back to watch TV, the HD10 is frozen or hung up. I get no response from any button pressing on the remote or directly on the unit. I have to unplug the box to power it off, and then plug it back it. After I plug it back in, it runs through its power-up process and then it works fine until the next time it gets frozen or hung up. Has this been reported as a problem? Any suggestions to fix the problem, or should I get a new unit?
Also, if I get a new unit, what should I look for on the back of the unit as far as making sure I have an updated model which will not have the problems which are referenced on this board (but which, apparently, have already been fixed)?
My story: My first call to Customer Retention at DirecTV resulted in an offer of $399 for the HD10-250 and $99 for the R15 (for a second room). I then called the local cable company and got a specific price quote for a bundled cable, internet and phone service. Then I called Customer Retention at DirecTV (this is now about 1 week later) and told them that I was leaving because I could get the bundled services from my cable company (including the HD DVR) for $160. Then Customer Retention offered me this:
- Free HD10-250
- R15 unit for $49.99
- Waived installation, handling, and delivery charges
- $20/month credit on my account for 1 year
- No monthly charge for the R15
- Showtime for 3 months
I hope this helps someone out -- since I have also asked for help here.
Thanks in advance. Marshall.
