View Full Version : OTA Problem: Interferring with sat signal???

Perhaps someone here can help me figure this out:

I have my OTA signal combined into my multiswitch. I have two cables running to my newest HR10-250. Both satellite signals come in with very strong ratings. I would like to diplex my OTA out from the satellite cable. I have hooked up a diplexer to one of the cables, but as soon as I plug in the OTA cable into the antennae input, my satellite signal suddenly drops to zero (only from the input I used to diplex. The other input remains okay). If I leave the diplexer attached to the satellite cable (just passing through), and unscrew the cable going to the antennae input, the sat signal returns to full strength.

What is going on here? Do I have a screwed up diplexer or something?

It sure sounds like a bad diplexer. It happens all too often. With Ka/Ku band signals either here or coming shortly, I would avoid diplexing as part of my cabling plan.

Also, the diplexer should only pass DC on the sat leg, otherwise the switching signals are interferred with.

Thanks. I will pick up a new diplexer and try it out.

It could be that the diplexor is passing DC to the OTA leg, and connecting the antenna shorts the DC, which kills the sat reception.

Does anyone recommend a particular type of diplexer, perhaps one that I could pick up at a B&M store?
