Wow...lots of action...Vala looks to be a mainstay now...all the principals are alive and things look hopeless...
Excellent :D

Dangit, I missed it...
Somehow, the season pass was deleted when I was cleaning up the list to clear out old shows thats not showing anymore.... bummer..... must have been exiting since the last season ending was an all out war.

I loved it all very very good opening episode. I can't wait to see atlantis in the morning after I woke up.

Good episode even though I generally hate shows with kids speaking grown up dialogue.
Was Vala "created" by the Ori to be impregnated with the human/Ori hybrid?

Wow, not a lot of talk here yet.
Out of all those casualties, isn't amazing how the whole team miraculously survived? Especially with not one but two improbable escapes from a dying ship! What are the odds?! ;)
It would have been nice to show at least one glimmer of hope somewhere, IMHO. As it is, they really have no reason to even try fighting again until they've got the MacGuffin --err, Grail ;) Normally that would become the big season-long quest, but in this case it wouldn't make sense. The Ori will be able to blow through all the major homeworlds in a few weeks at this rate, and IMHO Earth should be at the top of the hit-list. Unless of course they're stupid and stop to try to convert individual planets along the way. In which case I'll have to conclude that the great knowledge of the Ascended doesn't include the slightest scrap of military strategy!

So SG-1's search for the holy grail begins!
SG-1 needs a new plan and Vala needs a job. Think she'll become a full-fledged SG-1 team member, or will she just be part of the entourage and do lots of solo side-missions?
The only thing that bugged me about the proclamation that they need a new plan was the preview for next week:It's the second episode of the new season, and it looks to me like next week's show is NOT about the Ori! They're sidetracked from the new "plan" already? Or is this just a waystop while looking for the new plan? I'll be hoping for the latter.

It was a good episode, but I had to chuckle about the principals still being alive. At least they were slow at revealing each one, as opposed to showing them all alive in the first minute and a half.
For us, we knew Crichton was still alive right away, but for Carter it took 4 1/2 hours. For everyone else it was much longer.
It's also the suspension of disbelief. Did you REALLY think they were all dead? For the 200th time in 11 years?

As I suggested in the Atlantis thread, I think it would have been great if the Wraith showed up and faced off against the Ori.

As much as I love this show and as much as this was a great episode, I just wish the "religious fundementalism is bad" anvils that they've been dropping with this whole Ori arc weren't so damn heavy.
I mean, I agree with them, but the metaphor is so blatant that it's distracting at times.

It's almost a fair fight between earth and the wraith...so the wraith would be as easy to kill for the Ori...

Hmm... except the Ori might decide that the Wraith are an effective way of dealing with the planets that don't accept. And the Wraith might like the infusion of technology in exchange for having the Ori pick the planets.
I had high hopes for Alien vs. Predator too

Claudia Black is listed in the opening credits along with the rest of the team. I don't remember if that was the case last season.
I'm not fond of the "alien impregnation results in a child that grows up freakishly fast theme". It's a little old by now. And even been used what, 3 time before just on this show? However, I was looking at IMDB for something else, happened to notice who will play Adria when she gets a bit older. That I'll tune into see.
Snatching Sam out of space with the ship was a cool move. They made a point of the lack of speed control with the big ship. I would have expected Mitchell to use a smaller ship to intercept her, even if he just used it to tow her back inside.

Vala's questions to her daughter were very interesting. "If you want to convert them, why are you slaughtering them?" is a valid and thought provoking observation. It's clear that Adria doesn't buy her own propaganda, so she and Vala are playing the I know it and I know that you know it game.

Am I the only one who has audio problems with the Stargate shows? I thought it might have been my tv, but I only notice it on Stargate and Stargate Atlantis. The music in the bacground seems twice as aloud and often drowns out the voice track. I was in a hotel last night and I noticed the same problem. Anyone else notce this? Any solutions?

The Wraith beat the Ancients back in the day because their sheer numbers overwhelmed the Ancients technological advantage.
But this was before the Ancients ascended.
The Ori are not "basically Ancients", they are basically ascended Ancients. That's no contest, The Ascended win by knockout in the first round.

That bugged me too. My only thinking is that they are searching for whatever to help fight the Ori and stumble upon spoiler.
I dunno. I wasn't let down with the whole team being fine. That was predictable and I'd rather they not be dead. I was let down with just 'We need a new plan.' and than credits. Um, like? They tracked Merlin down and didn't find anything. They are really pretty screwed but hey we beat the replicators and the goul'd so we just need a plan to beat the Ori.
What is it with alien invaders having squads of troops stomping through the hallways of their ships? :D

the wraith are basically ancients and arrogant enough to deep six the God stuff from the Ori right off. I would think it a fight on first meeting. Now can the Wraith suck the energy out of a prior and his staff and use some of that power  We may find out since the wraith are headed to earth and will be in the same galaxy with the Ori and Stargate. I see crossover 2 hour connected shows during sweeps month

I still can't figure out why they wouldn't try that first before maneuvering a 20-gazillion-ton warship to scoop up one person in a spacesuit! I guess the writers thought it was "cooler" this way

To be fair, a 302 doesn't really have the ability to pick up a person floating in space. Mitchell wasn't wearing a space suit, so it's not like he could just open the hatch and let Sam in.
The best he could do with a 302 is maybe push her back towards the mothership.

The only reason the Ori cannot act in our galaxy is the threat of a conflict between them and the rest of the ascended ancients. They are keeping under the ancient's radar by using the Priors and their human warriors, but not being here themselves. This new thing, an Ori in a human body is a way of skirting the prohibition. It appears to be a gray area, as was Orlin, like Sam said.

Oh, I agree completely. The "rules" are there to just be hurdles for us to have to jump over to get to where we want to be, or else it would be just too easy. The problem is, the "jumping over" is beginning to resemble Rube Goldberg devices. Too comical to be taken seriously.

(who still haven't enough worshippers to be able to defeat them.).

Goa'uld...why aren't they more in the pic...did we really wipe out so many of them that we need this new demon? I thought there were many many of them. If we really did wipe em out, then i saw let the new guys kill them all and then we can worry about the new dudes.

If I remember correctly, the only Goa'uld with any power base left at all was Baal, and he is a bit on the sidelines right now. He'll raise his ugly (snake) head again sometime.
Since they eliminated the Goa'uld as a threat, and then the replicators, the writers were hard pressed as to what to do last season, so they had to "invent" another enemy. It was an imperative. Hence the Ori. Talk about taking it to another level: the battle of the ascended.
I wish we would at least be told, or find out what happened to the Tollen. I liked them.

I recall Baal cloned himself, and the last I recall seeing him/them, they were having quite a good time in their 50's-looking swinging bachelor pad! (They then eft Earth, but I don't remember where they were headed.) I wish we would at least be told, or find out what happened to the Tollen. I really do not like the whole 'ORI' story line. I would like to get back to stories where we are still exploring and meeting new people and races and make off word missions more interesting. The 'ORI' story to me is boring. I find myself looking forward to Atlantis episodes but not thrilled with Sg1. I also am not so thrilled with Vala. She does nothing for me. They need to bring back RDA and the original general. Also, where is Walter? I loved his small but commical encounters.
I do like the guy from Star Trek Voyager, forget his name but I do enjoy him and his character.

Well, it's not like they were going off-world and exploring just for kicks, that's Star Trek. They were going out to seek technology that would help them defend themselves against the extraterristial threat Earth was facing from the Goa'uld.
Now they're doing the same thing, but the threat is the Ori.
Second verse, same as the first. :)
