The first episode of a new show called 'Jericho' has been leaked on to the internet. You can get it from the newsgroups and bittorent.
Jericho is a CBS drama premiering in the fall of 2006, produced by CBS Paramount Network Television, with executive producers Jon Turteltaub (National Treasure (2004)), Stephen Chbosky and Carol Barbee.
The show is scheduled for Wednesday nights at 8 PM (ET/PT)
Thirty-two year old Jake Green (Skeet Ulrich) plans a brief return to his childhood home in rural and isolated Jericho, Kansas, to much fanfare from his mother and friends, who have had only intermittent contact with him. Jake appears to be hiding something, as each of his interactions with one of the town's citizens elicits a different explanation of why he was out of touch for so long (which include playing minor league baseball and joining the Navy). Despite objections from his mother, Jake intends to leave Jericho as quickly as he arrived.
During Jake's exit from town, the electronic equipment in and around Jericho begins to fail. At the same time, a mysterious, possibly nuclear explosion occurs to the west (presumably at Denver, Colorado), and a mushroom cloud suddenly becomes visible above the Rocky Mountains. Distracted by the explosion, Jake is involved in a car accident, and is forced to walk back to Jericho. As he returns to the town, evening falls - and news spreads that a second explosion has occurred in Atlanta, Georgia.
With communications and power out, Jake and the small town of Jericho face the challenge of being physically and psychologically isolated from the outside world - not knowing what is left of that world, or how many others are still alive - and of finding a means of survival in the midst of panic and chaos.

The commercials and 2 minute mini-previews running on CBS have me seriously intrigued about this show. Must go find a copy....

I am kind of torn. I will definitely see this show in the Fall, but I really would love to see it now.
I think I will hold off. Its better to wait.....got lots of stuff now with Scifi Friday starting back up.

yeah... right...
"leaked"
Leaked by ABC - that's for sure... generate hype - although, I find it idiotic to call it "the most compelling drama on television" when it hasn't even aired an episode yet.

Warren Ellis (warrenellis.com), admittedly a man of jaded tastes but he know good stuff when he sees it, hated it.

Watched it on a DVD screener from the studio along with a bunch of other pilots... it was... not bad. I'll definitely watch in the fall, but it has the potential to go south pretty fast. But I liked it, but then again, I've always had a soft spot for post-apocalypse, "what would happen if your society fell apart" kind of stories. I just wonder how long it will stay insular to this town...

Downloading it now, will watch it today. I don't have HDTV and won't anytime soon, so no reason to wait. I will update after I have watched it. Looks good though.

Sounds a little like a book I read as a kid - Z is for Zachariah.
I'll check it out this fall.

Watching it right now. Hopefully they get rid of that hair at the top of the gate when Jake drives into the fruit stand.
There it is again in the scene at the graveyard.
George Hearst is the Mayor of Jericho!!!!!!! (really just Gerald McRaney) :D
Funny, but :
I don't remember there being any mountains in Kansas. The mushroom cloud is clearly IN the mountains, not in fron of the mountains if Denver was hit.
Also, I didn't see anyone even using a cell phone to try to get information. And the tv's are all static, but doesn't anyone have DirecTV? Surely, they could still get a satellite signal from space and they had power for a while, so why doesn't that work?
Some things are implausible, some things are kind of cheesy, overall a little slow. BUT this is only the pilot, and I like the premise. Willing to give it a chance once it airs and hopefully they can build it up a bit and make it a good series.
Can't think of a more unappealing premise for a show. I'll stick with reality shows, thanks. :D

Just watched it, should be interesting I guess. We'll see if they can keep it going though.

I like the concept, too. Just not quite sure there's going to be a way they can keep this interesting based on what they've set up in the pilot.
And how exactly were they pumping gas when the power was out everywhere?

What an interesting new angle on BitTorrent...I was able to get this as well as a few other fall previews (The Nine, Shark). Searching "preair" on any of the BitTorrent search engines seems to do the trick (any other keywords to use?).
Thanks for the clue, off to watch Jericho now.

Yeah, I'm a sucker for these stories as well.
I've watched the ep and I can't say that I'm thrilled, but I'll certainly give it a few weeks to see if it can win me over.
(I've already decided that the mayor's election opponent needs to die. LOL!)

This show is so devoid of any kind of reality I don't see me lasting over 2 - 3 episodes if it doesn't improve. :(
1. Denver is on the eastern side of Rockies. You would not be looking across a mountain range looking back from Kansas.
2. By the road signs in the episode, Jericho is approx. 147 miles west northwest from Wichita.
3. Jericho is approx. 340 Mi from Denver. Not going to see a mushroom cloud at that distance(earth curves).
4. Town is so small that most of its citizens can gather at "the" gas station, yet it has a full time professional fire dept and police dept. Those people must have the highest property taxes on earth.
The show must be so low budget they couldn't afford technical advisors or anyone who knows geography.
I can only hope they are setting us up for something totally unexspected.

You'd be surprised how DHS money has been spent; this is the one item of your complaints that's probably realistic in today's world. ;)

This is hilarious and all true. I just hope a mystery man from St. Louis can show up at my job and take over. Although, there were only a handful of cops/FD... and I don't get hung up on geography. You need to see the mushroom cloud, earth curves be damned!
I think most of the main characters have some intriguing traits... and Skeet is always entertaining. I'll definitely SP this when it comes out.

Any similarities to Jeremiah? I know both start with "J" Bible names, and both are set in a post nuclear apocalypse.
But anything else?

I noticed the mountains, too (who didnt?), but it didn't bother me at all. Showing a mushroom cloud that's supposedly hundred miles away and over the curve of the Earth bothered me more, but I realize they were showing it for dramatic effect and, I suppose, to show that there *was* a mushroom cloud of some sort involved which is a clue as to what happened.
Heck, the movie "The Deer Hunter" let the snow capped peaks of the Cascade Range fill in for Pennsylvania's Appalacian mountains, yet it went on to win Best Picture.
Also, I've seen several forums assuming it was a nuclear explosion, but the marketing seems to be specifically avoiding saying that's the case. I think it's more likely something else. I also thought it odd that the...parents who left behind the recording from Atlanta had time to notice something going wrong outside before they apparently died.

Anyone who finds this show intriguing should look for the book Alas Babylon by Pat Franks...it's about a small florida town that is spared during a semi-large scale nuclear war...big cities are gone but large rural areas remain untouched...it's about how the town adapts and reacts ... fantastic book.

I enjoyed the show but it seemed a little slow at times. Worth catching the first few episodes to see if it keeps my interest.

You're so right! As someone who lives on the Front Range in Colorado Springs, I was literally laughing when I saw that kid on top of his roof in Kansas looking at a mushroom cloud in Denver! Hell, you can't even see 14,110' tall Pike's Peak in Limon, Colorado, and that's only 70 miles east.
This pilot had THE worst editing I've ever seen outside of a MST:3000 B movie. They go from dead of winter, to summer, to winter, and then back to summer again all in the same day! All of these...bloopers have made me get my hopes way down on this show. I really hope the next episode is a lot better, as the story does have a lot of potential.

I was hoping I wasn't the only one who thought that was absolutely ridiculous. Man, let's get that guy into congress quick so he can fix everything there too!

They called the kid to tell him they were staying in Atlanta longer than expected. The mother just happened to be on the phone when they saw the bomb fly in.

The mother just happened to be on the phone when they saw the bomb fly in. Which I don't believe she'd get a chance to see.

That's assuming that it was a bomb, which has not been determined.
