I used up all 8 outputs on my 5x8 multiswitch....
Since my new HD DVR is coming in a week or so,
what should I do? are there multiswitches with
10, 12, or more outputs? My current is dish is the
3-LNB model.
Any suggestions appreciated!

I had the same problem. The installer installed a new multiswitch. No sweat for me.

if your having directv send an installer with it make sure you contact them and let them know so they can bring the right one with them.
if your doing it yourself just replace it or add another cascadable MS to get the required outputs.

You can get another 4x8 multiswitch and cascade it with the first 4x8 multiswitch. Run four lines from the first multiswitch to the second multiswitch. This will give you 12 outputs. If you need more than 12 you could get 4 high frequency splitters that pass dc on only one line and split each line coming from the dish to each multiswitch. You have to connect each of the split lines to the same input on each multiswitch. This will give you 16 outputs.

Dang, 5x12 and 5x16 multiswitches are expensive.
Here's where I got my 5x8 switch with their cheapest 5x12.
(really a 4x12 with the"5" being an antenna input if you are diplexing)

They have another 5x12 for $480 or a 5x16 for $250 or $550

They've got to be cheaper on Ebay.

I have 6 DirecTiVos and was going to try and go for a single multiswitch solution, but dangm that are expensive. Cascading another BMS58 worked fine for me. If you find a cheaper solution than abovfe I would entertain switching over though.

Looks like another 4x8 switch is the answer. :)
Does the second multiswitch also need to be plugged
into AC power(via adapter)?
Thanks!

Thanks!Depends on which brand/model you purchase. Some multiswitches are unpowered.

In my case, the D* installer actually installed a second dish with another 4x8 in an opposite side of the house near where I wanted the new cables to come in. Seemed silly, but this was his way of running shorter cables, and since D* was paying for the additional dish and 4x8, I did not complain.

My Installer also put up a second 3LNB dish but they are side by side on under-eve mounts. . Wife and homeowners assoc are not too happy about it. House siding is stucco and roof is tile. I am hoping for the Slimline version of the 5LNB on an under-eve mount and cascadeable multiswitches with DirecTV paying for it all when MPEG 4 DVR time rolls around.
