View Full Version : If you received a free HD DirecTiVo from DTV recently, was it new or refurbished?

If you received a free HD DirecTiVo from DTV recently(only after March 2006),
was it:

(1) new or refurbished?

(2) what is the date of manufacture on the back of the unit?

I'm only talking about receiving one for free in a special offer or retention deal,
NOT one received as a result of a defective unit replacement.

I'm surprised more people aren't getting refurbed HR10-250s under the new leasing plan. It could just be that no one's reporting it yet. I suppose DTV will continue to send out new units until their inventory is depleted. They're sending out the refurbs as replacements for faulty units reported by current subscribers.

I recieved a new one but had a problem with it. Sent it back and they gave me a Refurb. It's a leased unit so it doesn't matter to me. Works great!

I got a new one thru Retention that had to be replaced. It was replaced with another new one.


The newer units do not have a manufacture date on the back.

For those that have needed replacements for their replacements, how long did you wait before asking for another new one? Immediately? I'm not really comfortable having 2 in the mail at once, so I've been waiting. I got a refurb replacement for a OTA reception issue (no digital OTA stations will come in), and the refurb did the exact same thing.

Was it in a retail box or a plain brown box? Getting a new unit as a replacement is highly unusual unless you returned it within 90 days after the original purchase. DTV will send you a new replacement unit under warranty but after 90 days you will only get a refurbed unit unless there are extraordinary circumstances (e.g., no refurbs in stock).

Got a refurb unit in June but it did not carry a mfg date so I assume it has the new HDMI card

I initially had my first HR10 replaced 3 times, each replacement was a brand new unit and 2 of the 3 replacements were well after the 90 day mark.

I got a new one last week, through retention. It came in a retail box, not plain brown.

I am pretty sure that mine was a refurb as it had the words "Return" written on pen on the top. It also did NOT come with the HDMI or DVI/HDMI cables, but I did not need them. No manufacturer date so I am guessing one of the newer versions.

Is there a manufacturer date on the inside (on the case or on the drives) like on the SD Units?

I got a refurbished one last week for what I thought was a bad modem. I didn't like that I got a used unit so I called and had them send out a new one, which was delivered by the technician on Saturday. They first wanted to confirm that I was keeping my NFL ST though because I guess that's how they were able to get it done.
