What will DirecTV do after 2007 if my HR10 breaks?
(such as hard drive going bad)

Will they replace it with a refurbished HR10 or force us to accept
the new non-Tivo HR20?

Thanks!

You do realize that Tivo and DirecTV extended their agreement 3 years to 2010, right?

Once the HR20 becomes readily available, I expect that they will use every opportunity to replace HR10s in the field with the HR20, and "phase out" the TiVo-based DVRs. That's what they're doing with the SD DVRs already.

I agree with you - I was just trying to stay optimistic.

Unless something other than the power supply or hard drive fails, most Tivo boxes should be repairable anyway.

Obviously I prefer HD Tivo. However, I'm just concerned that DirecTV will
force me to accept a non-Tivo HD DVR. (like saying "sorry, we don't have any
more HD Tivo DVRs for purchase or replacement) What if the new HD DVR co$t
a lot more? Will I be forced to pay the "upgrade" fee if my HD Tivo breaks down
in a year or two?

Well, if D* runs out of their stock of HR10-250's they can't really make them appear out of thin air so at some point they will stop giving them out and give you the newer one. I would guess that you will be able to get refurbs for qute a while though.

If it's just the hard drives that keep breaking - there's always weaknees and ptvupgrade. If something else breaks - then D***.
