Ok I 've done a bunch of reading and I am getting ready to go ahead with it. I have a perfectly working tivo with 3.1 software that was sleepered 2.5 years ago. It has a 120gb maxtor drive which is quite noisy for a bedroom unit. I have a few questions.

Since I am in Canada and cant get the tivo to call home, I just want to make sure the Zipper will automatically install fakecall?

Will my 120gb drive work if I run into problems and want to reinstall it until those problems get resolved? My wife wont be too happy if she doesnt have tv in the bedroom during this upgrade.

As I mentioned I am looking for a quieter drive and the following are available to me at a reasonable price.

Western Digital Caviar EIDE (WD2500JB) 250GB ATA-100 7200RPM 8MB Buffer
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus10 EIDE 250GB ATA-133 7200RPM 16MB Buffer
Maxtor MaxLine III EIDE 250GB ATA-133 7200RPM 16MB Buffer

Will all these work fine? Which would any of you reccomend. Keep in mind my tivo is in an enclosed cabinet and runs quite warm (48 degrees) but the hard drive noise is still audible.

Lastly, I have a linksys usb100m adapter that is to be connected to my D-LINK DI-704P router. Should I be ok with that setup for now until I get my wireless configured?

Thanks, for your newbie patience.

You will need to have 6.2 on your dtivo already if you want to keep your recordings/settings/seasonpass/etc.

The Zipper has the option to image a drive with a 6.2 image if you have an image (erasing everything) but it doesn't have the option to upgrade a 3.1 system to 6.2 with slices.

If you want to keep your recordings, you will have to learn how to do the upgrade manually with the slices (fairly easy) before running The Zipper.

PM me if you need the 6.2 slices.

The Zipper will install fakecall.tcl

I would go with the Western Digital, here in the US that 250GB drive is $75 and a 320GB Western Digital is $99.... if the difference is $25 in Canada also, the $25 is worth the extra capacity. http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=101251 < model of that 320GB drive

The Linksys USB100M is fine. If you have V2 of that adapter, you will need to run a small script after you run The Zipper to add support for it.

you should look into running that tool on your 120GB maxtor to make it run quieter.

Check your script link. This post will self destruct after you fix it.

thanks for the quick reply.

i dont really care about losing the recordings. I am going to start for scratch with the WD drive. I can get the 250gb drive for $88 Cdn. The 320gb is $118. I don't really need the 120gb i have now and with the 250 I am doubling my existing drive. I could also add the 120 later as a 2nd drive.

How can I tell if I have v2 of the usb100m. Serial number is LBF1025.. (i can read the rest of it is has been scratched off)

Can you confirm that I will be able to reinstall my 120gb should something go wrong during bootup of my new zippered drive?

PS check you pm.

Thanks again

Should not be an issue if you to reinstall the original drive as you will have everything on it still.

The WD hard drive is what I use.

As you have read the Zipper wiki, you might want to consider getting a 6.2 image from PTV for your 7000. Made my upgrade easy.

Varies with the exchange rate, of course, but I'd guess around $4.37.
