This "season" a 18-24 months later, has finally caught up with HBO

Rome was a good series... but the $$$ and the long delays...

Good, now if HBO would buy G4 and run the cancel cart through there. Hopefully it means more money for Lucky Louie. I was really getting tired of good TV shows anyways, it is time for a bunch of low quality stuff to take over. As long as the new shows are HD who cares.

good lord. it'll be hard to justify continuing to subscribe to hbo after the sopranos finishes its course. i might just cancel after this season of deadwood/entourage is finished.

No Sopranos until March '07.

Sigh. Deadwood was cancelled recently and will finish its run in a month or two. Six Feet Under finished up a few months back. The Sopranos wraps up early next year. Now Rome is going.

HBO dramas are taking a beating. That John From Cincinnati show better be pretty specfrickintacular or my HBO subscription is in serious jeopardy.

(At least there's still Entourage. And maybe Curb Your Enthusiasm.)

((Yeah, yeah, I know, The Wire - I've just never been able to get into that show. And Big Love didn't do it for me at all.)

Rome had a certain limit on storylines so 2 seasons is probably 1 season more than it should have, anyway.

C'mon! 500 years of empire and only two seasons?? Hardly seems like a fair ratio. :p

Well, Caesar's dead already. Maybe season 2 will take us through to Augustus' acension. That would be a logical stopping point.

I actually wish more shows would have a planned, limited run. So many shows start out with a bang and end with a whimper.

Wasn't Rome originally only going to last one season? I seem to remember being happy they were "adding" a season.

I kind of prefer it if they tell us it's going to be 1 season and then they "add" a season if it does well. That's the way HBO should always do these mega-expensive shows.

I think there were probably more factors in the decision to cancel other than HBO decided. These mega-expensive shows are usually produced by another company or even country. I think Rome has UK links (BBC, IIRC) and that would be a major factor in the decision to continue or cancel. The UK (and others, I'm sure) prefer to have a limited run that is remembered than to gain as much milage from a show so that it becomes comical or just plain bad.

Wow without Rome, Deadwood and The Sopranos its going to be hard to keep my subscription to HBO. The one show that really frosts me that they got rid of is "Carnival". That was a great show....they should have at least done a movie to wrap things up.....oh well...guess its bye bye HBO

I really enjoyed Rome. Hopefully knowing it is going to end this far in advance will give everyone involved a chance to end it properly.

Rome was fantastic. A strong second to Deadwood and now they will both be gone. Replaced by garbage like Lucky Louie and whatever else. Another nail in the coffin of my HBO subscription.

Yeah, that's a cancellation that HBO handled poorly. If they had cancelled it like they're cancelling Rome, I would have OK with it.

I guess because it wasn't as expensive to produce as Rome was, they felt more comfortable waiting to see what Carnivale's second season ratings were before making a final decision about it. Unfortunately for us those ratings sucked.
