Am I the only one watching this?
Some really good plays so far. Nice to see an outfielder with an arm. How Vladdy can hit a ball at eye level I will never understand.

Nothing to do w/ the Sox or not, game in the last 4-5 years has just gotten kinda stupid. Highlights are kinda good but overall I find the all-star game and the home run derby kinda boring.
Give me a regular game any day between two teams that want to win over this junk.
Are you a NFL fan and watch the pro bowl?? Who watches that junk? :)

There have been some really good plays tonight. The MLB players are actually trying unlike NFL guys in the pro bowl.

As much as I can appreciate the nuances of a 2-1 ballgame, I can't in an All Star game. This is hideously boring.

Woot! AL rallies for two runs in the top of the ninth!
I could appreciate the nuances in a little league game so I love this.

That's definitely a little better. Definitely want to see the AL win it with the Tigers in the race.

Anyone have a flashback to '03? Trevor Hoffman, best save pct. of all time (didn't know that was a stat, but it should be), blows the save to a Texas Ranger (Michael Young).
'03, Eric Gagne, in the middle of the longest save streak in history, blows the save to a Texas Ranger (Hank Blalock).

Maybe I'm just being a homer, but you'd think that the guy who won the Home Run Derby should have gotten more than one at bat for the NL.

I was thinking the same thing exact thing, and I'm a Mets fan. I also can't understand why Wright played 7 innings (w/ Cabrera AND Rolen on the bench)... and I REALLY can't understand why Beltran played the whole damn game with Andruw Jones behind him. Very strange.
It may have happened recently, but when's the last time a position player stayed in for all 9 innings?
How about the gratuitous T&A in the opening montage?......er.....wait......it's Fox!

You aren't a Homer. I would have liked to see that kid take some more hacks too.

The only part of the game I saw was the 9th inning. (I'm out west this week). It did look nice in HD. (yay for hotel rooms with HDTVs)

According to ESPN, in 1997 Ken Griffey, Jr. and Ray Lankford both played all 9 innings.

Wow.... 9 years ago. Thanks for the info. I'm guessing the only reason could be that Jones was the last outfielder on the bench, and Garner didn't want to use him in case they go to extras.
Was there ever a reason giving as to why Jim Thome didn't participate in the HR Derby? I would have liked to have seen that.

This was the first baseball game in a long time that I've watched more than a couple innings worth. I am still amazed at how good it looks in HD. Very impressive. Can't wait for football. NL gave it a good effort.
I don't remember which coach was which but is it typical for a coach to just let the players play the game without signs or swinging on a 3-0 pitch during an All-Star game?

I don't know that it's typical, but it wouldn't surprise me. They showed Phil Garner (NL) before the show saying, "Show your stuff, do what you want."

That attitude may explain why the NL hasn't won an All Star game since 1997(?). Especially when you contrast it with the AL coach's philosophy of playing the game like game 7 of the world series and he statement of not caring if everyone doesn't get to play (i.e., the best players play and if you don't play don't whine, play better and maybe next time you will).

Didn't Lance Berkman take a walk? I would have preferred to see him swing away. It's an exhibition game, no one wants to see walks.

It's not an exhibition game!
The all-star game now matters. The winner of the game has home-field advantage for the World Series. That means the AL has home-field advantage again.
I'm thinking Phil Gardner didn't care if they (NL) won or lost since he knew his astros wouldn't make it to the big show again this year.

It's an exhibition game. The home field crap is just nonsense.

That's my feeling too. This manufactured meaning is ridiculously stupid. Base it on record and be done with it.

Thome was asked why he wasn't in the derby and he said with his back, it's tough for him to get loose, then sit for a long period of time, then get loose again. Shame too, he would have put on a show for sure.
