This is a thread that I started to discuss PRIDEfc as opposed to UFC.

I noticed on the FSN shows, the commentary doesn't always match the stats shown on the screen. The 'tale of the tape' will show each fight, for example, each weighing 205, but then a commentator will mention that fighter 1 is 207 and fighter 2 is 203. That is odd...

And a couple of times I have seen the clock says Round 2 1:33 but the commentator will say this is the end of Round 1. Confusing.

Is PRIDE a minor league ramp up to UFC?

Is PRIDE a minor league ramp up to UFC?Pride isn't really the minor league compared to the UFC, in fact many would suggest it's the other way around. Pride is based in Japan, has an absolutely huge fan base over there, and has some of the best mma fighters in the world. The FSN broadcast is kind of a highlight version of Pride events. It's a glimpse of what's happened in Pride competitions but you have to go PPV to watch an actual event completely. The FSN Pride show is like UFC Unleashed where they show fights from different UFC's in one show.

As for the weight discrepancies and commentary mistakes, I'm not really sure why that occurs although Bas (commentator) does get confused about which round their in frequently. :)

The weight differences are probably in reference to weigh-in day versus fight day. Can easily change in 24-48hrs.

This is what will make the Chuck / Wand fight so good (or at least a big draw)... the best of both worlds so to speak. =)

I'm all over that in November... barring Chuck wins in August. =)

Wanderlei lost to Tito and Vitor Belfort though those fights were a while ago. Should be entertaining but I'll have to go with chuck.

I think given the popularity of the UFC now (and the $$ involved), you'll probably see a lot more Pride fighters fight in the UFC.

Yea.. the Tito loss was in 2000, and the Belfort loss was in 1998. We shall see how it plays out. Will be interesting since he's been fairly dominating in PRIDE since then. =)

Wow, just looking up info on Silva. 31-5-1 record. He only losses are by decision since Belfort in 98. Found that here...

That is a great site for fight records of every MMA fighter, as well as tons of video and stuff.

Since then Wandy has beaten Rampage Jackson twice, and Rampage is the guy in Pride that dominated and beat Liddell by TKO strikes. Of course that was '03 and since then Chuck's improved a lot also. Gonna be a really great match. I can't wait.

Good MMA news site. But, just so you know, Josh Gross (one of the editors) spilled the beans about the TUF 4 finals. Apparently someone told him who they were and he was recorded as repeating it. Now, I know Josh isn't at fault here... nor is sherdog (they were just reporting the news.. course some would say that is bad form.. but not against the law or anything)... but be careful on the forums.. they have TUF info you might not want to read. =)

Wanderlei is one of the best fighters in the world. He could probably beat Tito and Vitor with one hand tied behind his back now, he is such a different fighter and totally dominating.

It will be a great fight with Chuck, I can't wait!

I like both Pride and UFC, with each having its own strengths and weaknesses. The fighters seem quite comparable. I like the octagon better than the boxing style ring because in the ring the fighters can go under to ropes too easily and they restart them in the center which frequently gives one fighter an advantage, or takes away an advantage that he had earned. I also don't like the way Pride likes to show video of the crowds when there is action going on in the ring. I do however like the bigger variety of nationalities in Pride, each of which seem to have a different fighting style. I would think the 2 companies could both make some extra money by co hosting a pay per view fight that pits the champs of UFC vs those from Pride. That would be worth paying for.

Good point that I have started noticing, I only started watching this month. I like seeing the huge eastern europeans. Cro-Cop has those freaking huge legs that look like they could take down a red wood. There seems to be a distinct style difference amoung the heavy weights between UFC and Pride. Would love to see Cro-cop in UFC. Or has it happened?

Naw... I can't recall anytime he was a fighter in the UFC.

Oh.. here is his record.. nothing representing the UFC here:

I've spent a few weeks watching PRIDE reruns and I have to say that I find the PRIDE heavyweights to be far and away more interesting than the UFC heavyweights. I would LOVE to see Emelianenko take on Tim Sylvia. I think Emelianenko would absolutely destroy him. Wouldn't mind see Cro-Cop in UFC either (as others have mentioned). I think he too would destroy Sylvia.

Liddell vs. Silva should be great, if it happens. I've got my fingers crossed. I can see that fight going either way.

I think Matt Hughes could take Gomi.

My biggest, and perhaps only, complaint about PRIDE is the freakin' ring. They need their own octagon. No more stopping and resetting in the middle of the ring all the time.

Agreed, they penalize the fighters when they slow down in a clutch, but they will stop a fight to reset?

What is up with the guys on the outside of the ring pushing them off the ropes? Looks like an old school NWA Lumberjack match.

Is it them pulling their hands off the ropes when they grab them? Grabbing the ropes is a No-No.
