I have a DVR2 and I have an interinsting thought. Is it possible for me to add a new drive that I have used pvtnet and instacake on but keep my current drive with all of its programming as a secondary drive? This way I get the best of both worlds. I have a blank 160 GB drive that I would love to use instacake so I get the full size of the drive, I would get the network stuff PLUS I would get to keep my programming.

Is this possible?

Yes, it's possible but not desirable. Dual drive units run hotter, you must make sure they have adequate cooling. Overall, it's better to have a single larger drive than the same capacity on two separate drives.

If you do some homework on the mfstools utility (hint: use the search function to find existing discussions) you can copy stored programs from one drive to another. Once you get things on the drive you want you can Zipper it to enable the network stuff.

If it is the original drive, I wouldn't, as the stress and risk isn't worth the trouble, with the price of larger HDDs now. You can if you want, but you probably need to use mfsadd from the enhance PTVupgrade CD. I'd copy the existing drive to the 160 GB, and put the existing drive away.

Buy a single large HDD (300giggers are widely available for under $99), and keep the original on a shelf as a 'backup' drive when the new drive dies.

Dual drive units have been pretty much made obsolete by cheap large capacity hard drives.

Why risk the failure of the unit from excessive heat, noise, twice the chance of drive failure?
