I recently tried to upgred my directv r10 I backed my old tivo hard drive and then tried to copy my old hard drive to my new 160 use mfsbackup -Tao - /dev/hdc | mfsrestore -s 127 -r 4 /dev/hdb. After it finished it said that my drive was upgrade from 78hrs to 167 hrs but when I put the drive into my tivo it shows powering up but then freezes and show a grey screen. Put my orignal drive back in and the unit worked fine. What is causing this problem

Backups do not work when made in a big long run-on sentence.
(Sorry, couldn't resist.)
Are you sure the jumper was set back to master or cable select when you put the new drive in the tivo?

The command you put there doesn't look quite right. Assuming you have the drive letters correct, here would be the correct command to use in mfs:
mfsbackup -Tao - /dev/hdc | mfsrestore -s 127 -r 4 -xzpi - /dev/hda
I'd also try the new drive on master to see if that works.

The reason it hdb is because I have my C: drive on hda

Sorry, I meant to type hdb at the end of that command. You were missing other parts of the command though.

Okay, then I don't know what else could be wrong. Sorry.
Perhaps someone else will have an idea (when it is not the middle of the night.)

You don't need to format the new hard drive. MFSTools takes care of that for you.
