Help needed...I have had a hard drive failure I believe and need to restore my backup tivo.bak file on a CD to two new hard drives. I have been able to restore to new drives in the past but from the tivo.bak on my hard drive but I lost that computer in Hurricane Ivan but managed to save my Tivo on a high shelf. If I read Hinsdales directions correctly, when restore is used it takes the tivo.bak file off the hard drive and my only remaining file is on CD. I boot one of my old computers from MFS Tools CD but don't know the Linux commands to either copy the file from the CD to the appropriate directory on the hard drive or if possible, to restore directly from the CD. After booting from the MFS CD, is it possible to then insert the CD with the tivo.bak file and work with that? If so, I haven't figured out how to do it. Does anybody have any advice? It would be much appreciated. Thanks.

It has been a while since I read through Hinsdale's instruction and I would bet that they have changed since I did. Anyway, I would think that once you have booted from the boot CD you can then put the CD with your image in the CD drive and continue. Check the Upgrade forum stickies for more info.

Restoring from a cd is possible just by creating a virtual folder and mounting the cd as your drive. For example a CD of Secondary master IDE.
mkdir /mnt/dos
mount /dev/hdc /mnt/dos

If you have a series 2 Tivo then you can set up a Zipper boot CD with your image on it and the restore will be automated from the CD. If it's a series 1 then you'll probably need a different boot CD. Check Hinsdale's How To for the Linux commands you need to restore the image.
