I just went to add a new recording to my Tivo's and now they are saying DVR service not active. Amazingly enough my R-15 works fine. I can't wait to hear DTV's explanation. I also wasn't recognized as one of their best customers this time when I called.
Anyone else having issues? Or had this problem before?

Well, as with all companies that provide services, they ARE evil and occasionally torture a randomly chosen victim. And it's the weekend. They gotta play on the weekend. :p

Try rebooting your DirecTivo .... disconnect power, wait 30-sec, reconnect power. See if that helps.

Thats what they had me do, and so far 2 of 3 are back up. One of them still states service not active.
Oh she did tell me, if no phone line is connected they lose functuality and won't record the same stuff as if a phone line is connected. :)

does it say
ERROR 81
dvr service is not active
????
if so, when you call in, have the rep disconnect the reciever, reactivate it, reset your reciever, then resend authorizations

Can't say I agree with the phone line statement. My Tivo complains that I haven't "Phoned Home" in 180 days and still no problem with loss of any functionality (obviously I don't do any PPV purchases from the box) but normal other than that.

It doesn't have to call home but DTV is really starting to push the calling in issue. I recorded the DTV training video for connecting it to a phone line. They said only *about* 2 million units call the main office when they all are supposed to call in at least once a month and some each week. That is something like 10% of all units and of those only about half of the 10% actually complete the call. The interesting point was the host of the training video stated directly that all units *must* be plugged in to a phone line or a loss of functionality will occur. Mine are currently unplugged but they only call in every 16 days, so when I get a nag screen I plug them in and make the call manually. Some guys have never had their units call in after the initial download and that was several years ago.
