BACKGROUND: I recently sold my DSR6000 on eBay. I purchased this Tivo new, never cracked open the case, and it always worked great. It has the original 40GB hard drive. Before shipping in its original box, it was running version 3.1 (This was just before the 3.5 rollout). I did a "clear and delete everything" and waited for the unit to get to the welcome screen, so the new owner would complete the guided setup and be ready to go.

PROBLEM: The new owner tells me that she replaced her working standard receiver with mine and ran through the setup, but the unit will not completely read the info from the satellite.

She says "At one point it got as far as 90% but then went back to 26%". She also said "I called Directv to set up the service and they told me that the DVR was defective if it could not read the satellite signal"

Could this be a hard drive problem? I have tried to help her via email, but I am now stumped.

I would appreciate any advice you might have.

Thanks!

Yes, the "hanging at 26%" is a known problem with the older software. The workaround is pretty easy as I recall ....

Disconnect the satellite input cable(s) and the DVR will complete Guided Setup. It will complain about the missing satellite signal, but it will be able to complete. Then, after Guided Setup has completed, reconnect the satellite cable(s). The DVR should then be able to re-acquire the satellite signals. I think that's all there is to it. Try a search here and in the archive forums for "stuck at 26%" and you should be able to find the original threads about this problem.

Just found the solution at Weaknees' site here ....

Thanks for the reply. I have sent her an email asking her to try the above.

I will post an update here when I know if it works.

Glad it's solved.

Is it true that 3.5 is gonna fix this issue?
