still in my '30 day' grace period with D*

have never used any DVR other than friends/family (all w/Tivo) and have been very annoyed with the R15 over the past 2 weeks (remote buttons would randomly stop working, reboots required, crap like that) and for reasons such as tivoweb desktop, file transfer/etc. etc. I picked up a couple (ok 3) refurbed hughes DVR-40s off ebay.

ahhh heaven. putting a 400g drive into one this weekend and waiting for prices on the 500g drives to drop a bit for the other.

had an interesting discussion with both the best buy employee where I returned the DVR I bought there (R15 is crap, went to TV, etc.) and the D* rep. Best Buy employee admitted "I get that a lot", the D* rep implied "You're crazy"

anyways grabbing a WiFi USB card ASAP! :D

You do realize that you'll have to install special software by hand on the DTiVos to enable any kind of network connectivity, and that TiVo Desktop won't work? There are other ways to move thing around. Also, be careful as to which WiFi adapter you get as many are not supported by the unofficial hacks to network enable a DTiVo.

goes without saying no? there's a decent 'search' function here and google turns up some informative links at times. I'm not skeer'd of linux per se, but I did have to wait till I got the model # of my series 2 tivo unit before I ordered a wifi adapter (per links I've found)

thanks for looking out though. Really the main reason is I was beyond tired of the remotes failing, the R15's crashing, and the lack of certain features that are old hat on tivos. :D

I just ditched one r15, hooked my r10 back up, LOVE it, I Really enjoy tivo, so tuesday my HR10-250 gets here, Directv is making a mistake dropping tivo.....but in the same sentence their software is shaping up nicely, another year or so of updates and I think it will be on par for good dvr! as long as they get a way to switch between tuners and they have dual buffers on their tuners!
