Hi,
Will a DirecTivo unit play video files hosted using the TiVoDesktop? I would have thought so, but I can never get the Computer to show up as a host to serve video content, only photos and music.
This is the Mac Tivo Desktop v. 1.9.3, "hacked" to permit video sharing onto a 6.2 Hacked Philips DSR7000 DirecTivo unit with no active DirecTivo subscription. (ie: Cancelled DirecTV service, wish to use the unit as a media server for music, photos, and video).
Thanks

With Tivo desktop I dont believe so. I think there are ways to do what you want but the best place to ask would be the underground section.

Maybe you should have asked this question in the other topic thread you replied to.

Maybe, but that wasn't my thread and the OP was not concerned about video. Instead, you should chastize me for not asking the question in the TivoToGo thread where I'm still awaiting an answer.

chudel: I've tried the same thing, never worked for me. Let us know if you find a solution.

No, 6.2 will only share music and pictures from Tivo Desktop.
Further, if you use TivoDesktop 2.x, you have to point the video directory to an empty directory, otherwise it won't show up at all on the Tivo's.
Let me know if this makes sense. Also, if you searched in the underground forum, I posted this a while ago.

you might try googling for 'tivoserver'...

I've tried TivoServer, and it's just a total hack job. Yes, it sort of does TivoToGo video to hacked Tivo's, but it's not even close to ready for any sort of use beyond a very very technical group who want to spend a lot of time babysitting it.
It's not worth the energy, IMO. There are tons of other video servers (non-Tivo) that are much easier to use and require much less time.
