Try Select-Play-Select-7-Select

It seems to make the progress bar and the info window disappear.

Exactly. But the code does indeed work!

Is there not a code to simply rid of the play bar?

Tried it on my Samsung DirecTiVo and it makes a grid appear that helps you determine the amount of overscan on your display.
