Well my 4 month experiment with Comcast's cable and DVR service comes to an end tomorrow. I'm going back to what I know and loved with D* and Tivo. Comcast really only lured me away because of the HD content, price and no commitment but the DVR was too fraught with problems/annoyances to go on.

My question:

I'm getting the full meal deal with HD Tivo, etc. and the D* installation is scheduled for tomorrow morning. I got two diff. responses from CSRs when I asked about locals in HD. After giving both my zip, one said I get NBC and ABC, the other said I get em all.

Should I be calling ahead and making sure an OTA setup is also installed before the installer gets here? I'm in the Seattle area.

Thanks for any/all responses - can't wait to be back in the Tivo fold.

Argh. Just realized I didn't post this in the HD forum. I'll repost there. Admins, feel free to whack this post if necc.

Last I heard Seattle only had two of the four major networks on MPEG4 / HD. I'm in Seattle, but don't have HD so can't confirm that.

If you can receive over the air clearly, then you can use that to get all of the HD broadcasts, you really don't need the DirecTV feed for the local HD.

Directv seems to be "playing hardball" with the networks, trying to get a good deal on re-broadcast of their HD content.

either that, or the networks are getting paid by cable to keep d* out

or both
