I have just purchased an HR10-250 to replace my DVR40 but I would like to keep the DVR40 and connect it in parallel with my HR10-250. I know I can use splitters on the two feeds from the dish but I'm not sure if that will mess up the HD performance. Can someone please offer me some wisdom on how to do this.
Thanks!

You cannot use splitters. You must use a multiswitch. What you need depends on the type of dish you have. If you have a multisat oval dish, it probably has 4 outputs. You need to run one cable from the dish for each sat. input on the two DVRs. (total of 4 cables).

Thanks for the response. I have an LNB5 that was just installed for my HR10-250. It is connected to what I thought was a splitter in the basement, out of which come two coax connections to my DVR and one each to two other receivers (SD) in the house. Do I replace that device with a multiswitch or is that, perhaps, a multiswitch? If I need to install a multiswitch is there a particular kind/brand that is recommended? As you can see I've not done this before, although I'm reasonably adept at learning and doing these things, once I've received some insight and diretion.
Thanks!

that "splitter" you're looking at is the multi-switch. You just need to run two cables out of any two open jacks on it and run it to your dvr. Then call direct tv to activate it ...if you don't already have it activated.

BTW, if you don't have any more open jacks, you'll have to get a bigger switch with more jacks on it.

Thanks -- that's what I needed. Appreciate the responses.
