I have a wireless LAN, with nothing but my computer, a printer and my Tivo on it (hacked DirecTivo Series II). I continue to have fussy problems figuring out the assigned IP address of my Tivo, although it does "talk" to the nework.

Does anybody have a recommendation for a good freeware network management tool? Not too many features needed. I'm talking something on the level of Filezilla, but something I can use to figure out what's going on when when my networked components aren't acting right.

if you're just trying to find out what ip your tivo is....do a search on google for "angry ip scanner" and D/L it, it's free. you put in a range of addresses to look for and shows which ones are alive and dead. Once you see which ones are live, unplug your tivo from the router and run the program again...whichever ip that showed live now shows dead...that's your tivo. Is that what you're looking for?

The IP Scanner above will do nicely - but since your network is so small, why not disable DHCP on your LAN and assign static IPs? You'll never have to wonder which IP is assigned to which device. Your Router will always be 192.168.0.1, PC always 192.168.0.2 and TiVO always 192.168.0.3 (or whatever *YOU* decide it be)
