We have a series 1 tivo that has a network card and has previously been hacked.
All was fine until we moved house and the PC was damaged. Now we cannot see tivo on the network. The person who previously hacked the unit is no longer around - any help on how to "re-activate" or find tivo on the network most welcome. Not a great computer expert but comfortable with removing drives etc.
cheers. Tivo web server can see my PC (correct IP) the tivo unit cannot be pinged even though the hub shows the active network port when tivo connected.which would suggest the tivo network card is running ?

How does your TiVo download program data? A quick way to see if the card is working on the network even if you can't see it is to try to make a daily call using it. In the phone set up set the dial prefix to ,#401 (use the Pause button to make the comma and the Enter button to make the pound sign) and make a test call. It should take only about 10 seconds once the preparation to make call is done. If it doesn't work then you'll know the card is not connecting to the internet through your network.
What do you mean the Tivo web server can see your PC?

Thanks, I tried dialing via the network but it failed, so i guess there is a problem with the network card in tivo. When checking properties in web server, the software has correctly identified the IP address for my PC on the network as the PC to transfer any recordings to from tivo.
I think the time has come to buy a new series 2, cant complain, we have had the old series 1 for nearly 10 years....

Verify your network settings as GlennL said. Restart the recorder. Temporarily disable all security software like firewalls and AV in XP. How exactly are you connecting to the TiVo? Are you using a router or other device, and does it use static IP or DHCP to give the TiVo it's address? I'd think you would be able to simply telnet or ftp into the box from the Windows command line, assuming you are using the correct IP address to do so. Wouldn't hurt to try different cables too.

I wouldn't junk a series 1 just yet, especially, if you have lifetime on it.
