I currently have a 5x8 multiswitch and all 8 outputs are in use.
It is a Terk multiswitch, which requires AC power.

The DirecTiVo DVR in my TV room has two cable connected to it.
Can I plug those two cables into a old non-powered Sony 2x4 multiswich?
The reason for doing this is so that I can add another DirecTiVo DVR with
two sat inputs.

Thanks for any info! :)

Yes you can do that but the receivers that you connect to the 2x4 multiswitch will only be able to receive channels that are carried on the main DirecTV satellite position of 101 degrees.

You could also connect a 4x8 or 5x8 to 4 of the outputs from the existing 5x8 multiswitch and then all receivers will still have access to all 3 satellite positions.

But, then the OP would have to run two more lines to the TV room.

Everything is a tradeoff. :)

Not only that, but if you set up the receivers to Oval, and happen to hit a 119 channel, you'll screw up the other units on the 2x4.

Not only that, but if you set up the receivers to Oval, and happen to hit a 119 channel, you'll screw up the other units on the 2x4.It typically does not screw up the other receivers. What typically happens is the receiver thinks it is receiving a channel on the 119 satellite but is actually getting a channel on the 101 satellite.
