Tivo hung on Welcome screen [Text View]

HI,

My Series 2 Tivo is hung on the Welcome screen. I heard the drives seek for a second (I have the original 40 gb + a 80 GB seagate with weakness conversion plate), but nothing happens. Is the drive dead?

If so, can someone run me through how I can recover the system? Preferably without losing the records Also, since I am in there it seems like an ideal time to install a new bigger drive. Any pointers on this?

Search for a tool called dd rescue.

Search for a tool called dd rescue.

But, I have question. How do I get ddrescue or dd_rescue to run? Is it on the MFSTools CD, or do I have load the drive on a Linux system, or ????

It does not seem to be on mfstools (that I could find -- I could be wrong). But it is on Knoppix.
