I just got a HD DVR from DTV. It wants to dial up to set up the tivo recording feature. I do not have a phone line, only a cell phone. Is there a way to bypass this or a way I can use my cell phone?

You need the phone line for the initial setup. Thereafter it isn't needed.
Take it to friend's house.

Ummm...
An HD recorder with TiVo service?
The series 3 isn't out yet.
What is this all about?
Who's "DVT"?
Anyone?
Please? :p

You're referring to the HR10-250 HiDef DirecTV DVR, right? Just follow JimSpence's advice for its initial Guided Setup. Your friend/neighbor doesn't even need to have a satellite dish. Then take it back home and enjoy it without any phone connection. Your Guided Data is delivered via satellite, so you don't really need a phone line. You just won't be able to order PPV movies with your remote (just order via DirecTV's web site instead).
By the way, the "HDTV Tivo Powered DVRs Forum" is a great resource for all things HR10-250.

I currently have a phone line and all my Tivos are activated. I want to completely get rid of the phone line and just use our Cell phones. We never watch pay per view movies, so that's not a problem, but what about sports packages? Will they still be mirrored to the other receivers without the phone plugged in? That's the only reason I still have a phone line at the moment. Thanks!

Since DIRECTV says all the receivers in the house must be connected to the same phome line in the house I'd guess you better leave them connected to the phone line.
