You need to have the Service Number for that box and call up Customer Support. They will be able to help you with that.

Not to my knowledge. I think calling customer support is your only option. It's a toll free 877 number, and I assumed Canada calling 800/877/866 numbers is still toll free. Am I wrong?

TiVo is a prepay service. You pay before they give you service. If you don't pay you don't get service. There is no way that your Tivo would have some sort of outstanding balance on it. It just doesn't work that way.

I bought a used TiVo once and it did have the monthly service still on it, I assumed it would end at the end on the month that the person I got it from stopped paying, three month later monthly service was still on the TiVo. At that point I wanted to set up a network and needed the unit in my account, called TiVo and found out that he was still paying for the service (he did not tell TiVo to close that TiVo out) TiVo had to closed it for him and put lifetime on the unit for me. So when you buy a TiVo anything is possible just connect to TiVo and then look at the service status.
