View Full Version : Season Pass Manager

I just sent this to Tivo suggestions and then read a month old thread here about purging the Season Pass Manager and the time it takes.

Is it possible for Tivo to let us use our own computers to create/edit SP lists? If that were possible it would eliminate the lengthy task of reorganizing the list twice a year when regular season is in re-runs and the summer shows come on and vice versa.

We could then keep multiple lists on the computer and then make any changes needed and upload the desired list into Tivo. When the new season starts each year I set two of my three Tivo SPM lists to get the shows I want with different priorities. Example: Tivo A has Crossing Jordan with priority over L&O CI and Tivo B has L&O CI with priority over Crossing Jordan.

Setting this up is very time consuming and as much as I try to make as many adjustments as possible without activating the changes, I will inevitably hit a wrong button and then have to wait a verrry long time for existing changes to be carried out before continuing with more changes.

It would be so much easier to create/edit the entire list on a screen where you can SEE the entire list, or two lists (windows), side by side and rapidly scroll up and down the list and then upload the new list into Tivo and go to sleep while it is all implemented overnight.

It would be nice, unfortunately, they don't offer that. And HME doesn't allow access the the PVR stuff, so homebrew developers can't build something to do it either. Not that it would help us DTV users, but it would be something at least. The closest you can get right now is TivoWebPlus. You can edit, add, and delete SPs with it, but it requires hacking to get it installed. Changing priority settings with it is SO nice. Click, and it's done. It takes some time to have the changes reflect in the ToDo list, but it's not bad at all. And if you want the ToDo list updated right away, just go into the SP manager on the Tivo, move one SP and put it back, then leave, you get the big "please wait" thing, but it will rebuild the ToDo list for you right then.

Are you moving all the SPs around at once then exiting or moving one SP then exiting then moving the next, etc.

I find it best to do all the up/down moving once, then after that finishes go into any SPs that need tweaking (KAM # change, etc).

OK, I just downoaded TWP 1.2.1 I tried to get the beta 1.2.2 but you have to be registered to download and I saw no way to register. Is this just a normal install or is more required? I am pretty computer savvy, but how involved is the hacking you mentioned?

Yes, I do as many moves as possible before committing them, but I am moving pretty fast and ineveitably hit a button now and then that causes it to begin processing changes made to that point and then I WAAAIIITT

So slow down and stop being sloppy about it. ;)

I'm running 1.2.1 and it works just fine for me. How involved the hacking is depends on what you are trying to hack. You didn't say what kind of TiVo you have, so I can't really tell you much. Head over to the Underground forum, there is a lot of good info there about hacking TiVo boxes. It's not too hard if you are reasonably good with a computer and can follow directions.

Or, as allready mentioned, just go a little slower when updating SPs! :)

why make yourself tweak the list

I set the bulk of my season passes to first run only - so if they go into rerun then it makes no difference and the lower season passes will have more open room to possibly record something in.

if you want the reruns but at a lower priority then make some wishlists for same and keep them at a lower place on the season pass list below the second half of shows you move around. that way they kick in when it is rerun time

I have three Tivos, but the two I am asking about are a Tivo II 80 hour unit made by tivo and a Toshiba RS-TX20 DVD/TiVo DVR - 140 Hours

Trust me, when I say, "but I am moving pretty fast..." I don't mean just quick enough to be sloppy, I mean FAAASST, and to go slower would be just exchanging a different slowness for this slowness, "...and inevitably hit a button now and then that causes it to begin processing changes made to that point and then I WAAAIIITT

I like your ideas, but I like to decide when to record a rerun or not in case it is an episode I had somehow missed. Also, so many shows today are run several times per week and if one of those shows is in conflict with a once a week show, I will record it at a later air time. If it is set for first run only, all later airtimes will be reruns and passed by.

Bottom line is that all the suggestions here, including the hacking thing are work arounds, not solutions. Tivo could fix this by allowing the season pass manager to be configured on your PC. As for my mention of going so fast and inevitably hitting a key that puts the changes in motion, that is probably the easiest fix of all. Put an option in the season pass manager that simply says, "Apply changes now."

That would allow you to make all the changes you want before the box goes into the process of applying them. If you make the changes and then attempt to leave SPM without hitting "Apply changes now", you would see the message, "Do you want to apply changes now?, just like you used to see when you deleted a show and saw the question, "Do you want to delete this show?"

I used that with "The Apprentice" when it was on like 4 times in the same week. the Wishlists can be autorecord and you stop any recordings you do not want or set the KEEP at Most to a low number so it does not matter space wise if they record or not. I do that with Law and Order and just have 5 or so around to watch if I want to.

I am all for working season passes and so forth on a PC. I suspect that with the new opt-in policy for TiVo to know the shows scheduled and so forth for Guru Guides that working season passes from TCO may not be too far away, but that is speculation

(I sat down and tested it once, having heard conflicting reports that it was, OAD + 7 days, OAD + 14 days, or OAD + 28 days)

thanks for the clarification  I had never tried it to find the total time limit
