i did a search but the posts i found didnt fully answer my questions...

If i have a movie in cue/bin format on PC...how do i...or can i...watch it on Tivo? Does it need to be converted? If no conversion necessary do i just transfer the bin file?

cue/bin files are CD image files, and usually contain VideoCD information. To extract the data from the image mount it using a program like Deamon Tools. Then grab the .dat file from the virtual CD and copy it to your hard drive. Now rename it to .mpg. Now use something like Videora to convert it to TiVo compatible format.

Will alcohol 120 work for that?

Yeah it should. You just need something that can mount the cue/bin file to a virtual CD-ROM so you can get at the data on the "disk".

Alternatively you could actually burn a disk and do it that way.

thats how i have been doing it....burn to CD-RW...but was thinking if it was "easier" just to transfer it from drive to drive...then wouldnt have to deal with a CD....

But it seems that it might be easier to keep doing it with the CD...Just hafta get to the store to buy more.

Actually it's a LOT easier to use a virtual CD program like Daemon Tools. All you do is start the program, click load image, pick the .cue file and all the sudden you have a virtual CD-ROM on you drive list that you can browse just like you had actually burned the CD.

Hmm...gonna hafta try it....then just copy the .dat, rename as a .mpg, then VidoeraTivo....

Guess its the whole idea of "virtual drive" that sounds complicated...kinda like configuring "virtual memory" in Windows... :-P

Virtual drive is super easy! When I used to travel for work, I had a few subnotebooks without optical drives. I'd rip games and DVDs to the hard disk and then mount them as if I had a drive on the plane, in the hotel, etc. Trust me, it's pretty easy and very efficient. (I also used Daemon Tools, but it's been awhile...)

so started playing with A120....never used it before but knew i had it. Everything worked perfectly until i forgot what i was trying to accomplish...tried to burn the file from virtual drive to dvd...for some reason it wouldnt let me do it.

Then remembered i was trying to get it to tivo. Copied the .dat....changed it to .mpg...but is converting necessary? i have had other .mpg that i just transfered straight to tivo with no problems....

Edit: Nope...didnt transfer. Will now run it thru VideoraTivo

These are most likely VCD images, which are in MPEG1 format and NOT compatible with TiVo. However if they are SVCD then they are MPEG2 and they are compatible with TiVo except for the audio. (SVCD audio is 44.1KHz and the TiVo requires 48KHz)

Started transferring before leaving for work....last night it wouldnt even start...so im already ahead of the game. Should be sitting there waiting for the kids when they get home.

This particular file was too large to fit on a CD..

Thanks for your help.

I don't know if they have, but I really wish TiVo would hire a full-time person with an instructional design background to systematically put together all sorts of well organized, easily accessible guides and tutorials. There's a bunch of these features (not just TTG) that are just poorly documented or the documentation can't be found. For example, folks just finding out that WMV conversion is available, having trouble labeling PSP files, sending video back to TiVo. If I had more time, I'd definitely create a more extensive site (and with pretty graphics) but I have a job - so TiVo should work on this.

Somebody pointed me towards VCDGear. I gotta say this program makes converting bins realy easy. Run the bin thru VCDGear...then the resulting .MPG thru vidoera Tivo...then the transfer to my Tivo machine....pretty quick work of it.
