View Full Version : Transfer jammed
My computer's NIC decided to go into some sort of funky unhappy mode while I was in the middle of a PC to Tivo transfer. I tried to go into the To Do list and cancel the transfers. Most of them cancelled, but one is stuck.
When I click on this transfer in the To Do list, it says it is "now transferring", but it does not show up with the blue dot in the now playing list. When I say stop the transfer, it takes me right back to the To Do list and the item is still there. When I say "play the file" (from the To Do list still) it says, "The program did not record."
I tried deleting my entire To Do list and program information -- it still remembers this transfer when it came back. (All my season pass recordings disappeared, but this transfer is still there!)
Is there anything else to try besides a full clean out? I don't want to lose all my recordings, nor do I really feel like transferring them all to a PC! However, I am unable to transfer anything from my PC to my Tivo at this point, as the transfer will be scheduled after my zombie transfer job, which isn't going anywhere.
Thanks!

Use Windows Task Manager to kill (End Process) on your running TiVoConverter.exe (you get to Task Manager via Ctrl-Shift-Esc)

I don't have a Converter, just Beacon, Server, and Transfer. I tried killing Transfer just for grins. It didn't make a difference. (The computer was completely shut down all last night so everything has disappeared at least once on the PC side without changing the problem on the Tivo side.)

Then converter is what crashed. The task bar icon doesn't do a great job in detecting when the converter goes away suddenly. I've seen it sit for 20 minutes still spinning its spinner even though there's no conversion in progress.

So, I should try to START the converter, then? Or delete my Tivo Desktop state and reinstall the Tivo Desktop? Or, something else?

Well actually if you're using only the TiVo Desktop software, then if the conversion fails you need to start from scratch and redownload your *.TiVo file.
You could however run the converter from the command line (http://www.zatznotfunny.com/2006-06/desktop-23-hack-transcode-prior-downloads/). But you'll need a bit of technical and command line expertise to do that.
However, I just (in another thread in this forum) release a wrapper for the converter so you can post-process instead of process inline.

Thanks for trying to help, but we have totally miscommunicated here. First, I'm running desktop 2.2, and have no TivoConverter.exe. (Is there any reason to upgrade to 2.3 if you don't own a video iPod or similar device?)
Second, the transfer that is jammed is going from the PC to the Tivo, not from the Tivo to the PC.
On the Tivo, the To Do List says a transfer is currently inbound from my PC. It ain't really there in the sense that the transfer can be successfully started, stopped, or deleted, however. If I browse to my PC from the Tivo and try to start another transfer, it says that it will do the new transfer when my zombie transfer completes (which it will apparently never do). Thus, I cannot upload video from my PC to my Tivo.

Jlc4, I lost my power during a transfer last night and am in the same situation. I can't delete the transfer from my to do list. Any luck finding a remedy?

I have 2 Series 2's that never had a problem transferring to each other. Suddenly, one of the 2 stopped receiving transfers, but would still transfer to the other Series 2. It claimed there was a transfer in progress, which there wasn't. The "zombie" transfer was not in the to do list or the now playing list. This transfer was stuck for about 2 weeks. I tried everything...rebooting, clearing the to do list, even clearing and deleting everything. Finally I found a solution.
I logged onto the tivo website (the board will not let me post a web address yet) and disabled transfers on both of my Series 2's. I also renamed both units. I then connected both units to TiVo so they would receive the changes. After the connection, I verified the changes on both units. I then logged back onto the tivo website and enabled transfers on both units. I reconnected both units to TiVo to get the changes, and verified on both units.
This fixed the problem.
