View Full Version : Can I Record Hi Def on 10-250 without "connecting it" to DTv

I have 2 R10's and a 10-250. Most, essentially all, of the hi def that I've recorded on my 10-250 has been from over-the-air local stations. About a month ago I discontinued my Hd subscription from D but still have the 10-250 mirrored and receive the scheduling.

If I were to discontinue the Hi Def TiVo subscription - leaving the 2 R10's subscribed as they now are - could I view as well as record over-the-air local broadcasts on the 10-250 by programing the it with the time/channel option? Will the unit function in this mode as a stand alone like the old series one SA2000? Since I have the program scheduling through my R10's, I would be able to easily determine what local hi def programs I wanted and then use the 10-250 much like a vcr and save the subscription fee as well.

Your comments are appreciated. Thanks ............/herb

Without subscribing to DVR service, my understanding is that you can use the HR10-250 as an HD tuner with the 30-minute buffer for FF or RW or 30-second skip, but you can't record anything.

I think Crash is correct .... you cannot record even "manual recordings" with an unsubscribed HR10-250, although you will still be able to watch and pause "Live TV" with its over-the-air tuners.

You need the DVR tier active on your access card in order to use any of the Tivo functions (recording, season passes, wishlists, etc.). Since you're already paying the DVR fee for the R10s you only need to pay the $4.99 mirroring fee for the HR10-250. I've got the premium channel and HD DTV services with my three HR10-250's but I use them primarily for recording OTA local HD channels.
