View Full Version : OLD TiVo unusable during update?

I've got a friend with an OLD Sony TiVo which they claim that when it's dialing in and updating, it changes the channel and does not allow them to watch what they want to watch while it's updating. And due to the sliding window, sometimes that happens when they want to be watching a show. They said that it asks them first, so I told them to tell it "no" and it will update itself later on. But if they say "yes" and it starts, are they really locked out until it's done? Why is it changing the channel at all? Also, they're on version 3.x of the software (I guess it's a Series 1) -- any more updates ever coming for those old units?

They are no software updates coming for the Series 1, so I guess it is dialing in for guide data. However, it shouldn't change the channel when it updates. Sounds like it is asking them if it can record a TiVo suggestion. You may want to have them turn this functionality off if they are not interested in it. Even if they say yes and it changes the channel they should be able to change it right back if they want.

That could be it... I was thinking the TiVo changed channels to download some of their video content (the "star" items), but that makes more sense. Thanks!
