I just replaced my original 40hr unit with the new Dual Tuner model. I'd like to set up the 40hr in another room. I do not want to use it to record new programs (therfore don't need a subscription), but would like to ocassionally transfer a program for viewing.

After I removed the 40hr from my account, it lost it's multi-room viewing capability!

I can transfer from the Dual Tuner to my PC, then transfer from the PC to the 40hr (2 transfers). Is there a way to transfer directly from the Dual Tuner to the 40hr without a subscription?

If not, is there any value to a Tivo unit without a subscription? Have 2 on subs, don't need a third!

Nope, once you stop paying for it, all it can do is trick-play (rewind, pause, etc.) in the 30-minute buffer and watch previously-recorded stuff AFAIK. No MRV, no SPs, nothing. *Some* Series 1 models can be used without a subscription, but not all, and I'm guessing that yours is a Series 2. The only way you will get anything out of it is to sub it or sell it.
