View Full Version : DRT800 and 7.3 Software

My Humax 80 hour DVD box got upgraded to the KidZone software. Now it is more painfully slow than it was before AND re-booting doesn't seem to help.
I also now have 3 or 4 annoying disturbance lines that appear at the top of all the video I play on the recorder whether it's live tv or recorded shows.
Has anyone else noticed any of this?

so far I haven't had those issues on my own, at least not that I've noticed. The only problem I've run into is the Stop-button-doesn't-register issue.
How is your DRT800 hooked up to the TV? I'm on Component; I suppose another connection type might react differently.
Of note, there are *always* some lines at the very very top of the video signal. I believe they're for closed captioning. It should be set to display them beyond the range of the TV. (Old TV sets would have a "Vertical Size" setting and if you twiddled with that, you'd see the lines). Have you tryed going to video that isn't through the TiVo? Maybe your TV needs a tweaking, and the update to 7.3 is just coincidental?
I'll keep an eye on mine when I get home on Monday, maybe I just didn't notice...

I looked closer and these are not the closed captioning signals as I see them when I transfer shows from Tivo2Go and play them on my PC it's a bit annoying but I can live with it. (I usually only see them on FOX around here.) I've checked my TV settings and they are set correctly, haven't changed anything.
I did some more checking and this is only happening on two Tivos in my house that are in my living room. They both installed the Tivo 7.3 software on the same day. It has to be coming from the signal to the Tivo because I turned off my satellite box and the lines are still there on the "no video blue screen."
Could it be that the software download was corrupted and installed incorrectly?
I even went and tried to go and change the video configuration on the Tivo and when I try that on both of these Tivos it gives me an Error message that the data cannot completely load.
Is there a way to make the Tivo dump the cache of the newer software that it has, re-download 7.3 and re-install to see if that fixes it?
OR
When there is an update to 7.3 will the update most likely download something that will fix the issue I'm having?

oh thank you for posting to this thread; i couldn't find it this afternoon :b
I went poking about through menus when i got home, and the performance seemed normal. I'm watching last night's episode of The 4400 right now, and it looks normal.
I switched from Component video to the regular "yellow cable" video, and it still looked normal.
I hate to say it, but I think you might be alone on this one :-{
I don't know of a way to make it re-download the software update. I wonder if the TiVo tech support folks could push it from their end? If you happened to have made a backup (when doing a hard drive upgrade, for example) you could revert to that and let it auto-update again.
You might also want to try running Guided Setup again. I hear that sometimes fixes things?

Thanks for checking your set-up again.... Ahhh, dreaded Guided Setup again, I don't want to loose all of my programs I have stored. Guided set-up deletes them all again, doesn't it?

No, you can safely re-run GS without losing any recordings, SPs, or WLs. You're thinking of the "Clear and Delete Everything" option.

I have a DRT800 and the 7.3 upgrade absolutely has degraded its performance. The double button issue was bad enough, but now there is a 1-2 second hesitation on it accepting commands. I called up support and spoke with a manager. Basically, they have no timeframe on fixing it....same old story. Ideally, whatever 7.3 fixes happen for everybody will help us as well.

If GS doesn't clear it up, uh, maybe Clear and Delete Everything isn't such a bad idea... but I hear ya on the recordings...

You could also try kickstart see http://alt.org/wiki/index.php/TivoDiagnostics
but backup your recordings first.

i hope mine isn't starting a "random reboot" thing... I came home from work, and turned on my TV to the "welcome.. .powering up" screen.... but it finished recording an episode of the simpsons within the past half hour... no service updates or anything, and I was home long enough to know if there was a power failure (there wasn't)...
hmm

Tried the kickstart and it was done in under 15 minutes with no errors and re-booted fine. The lines are still there. :(
Oh well, hopefully a future update will kill the lines. I want to make sure I can enjoy TV over this long weekend, so I'm not going to try anything that might cause some trouble.

hey what kind of input are you feeding your TiVo? regular analogue cable tv line? through the A/V ports from a cable/satellite box? something else?
Do these lines show up through "Live TV"?

Yes, they show up on Live TV as well and on the Tivo menus.
I've added nothing new to the electrical lines so it can't be something else drawing power and causing it to flicker. I've also not added anything new to my setup that would be causing interference.

so its pretty much all output from the TiVo regardless of what its actually displaying??
now i'm really curious... do you have a digital camera? maybe you can grab a photo of this?
couldn't hurt to try... completely power down the TiVo (and hell, why not, unplug all your equipment) for about 10 minutes or so... just, let it power down and cool down and all that... then fire it all up and see what happens

Here are my two cents:
I've got a "factory renewed" DRT-400 back from HUMAX's warehouse with software version 7.3. At least once a day, my unit locks up (today it was 3 times: 7 AM, 9 PM and 9:25 pm). My input to the unit is through the coax cable straight from the wall and I haven't noticed any lines on my display.
I have noticed a slow down with all the menus. I first thought it was my new TiVo brand network adapter that I was using, but even with it unplugged, my unit still locks up periodically.
I tried the kickstart options 57, 58 and 52, but that didn't seem to work. I will try the other suggestions mentioned in this thread, but I'm not hopeful that they will help. Does TiVo have any timeline yet on when there will be a fix for this?

they haven't commented on a timeline, but they are aware of the problems and are working to resolve them quickly.
there's a couple threads in "Coffee House" you might want to review

I did get 7.3.1 and no it didn't clear up the problem. From some more testing that I'm doing it appears that it might be my TV.
It's taking the top maybe 10% of the screen and taking that image and flipping it down overtop of itself while still mainting the rest of the image on the bottom perfectly fine.
I've had the lines in the past nearly halfway down the screen but they would work their way back up the screen once the TV was turned on for a while.
I've gotten used to them when they went away, but they are just still there at the top 10% and have stayed there since about 2 weeks ago.
The TV is only 5 years old at most, so I don't think it could be going yet?
TydalForce

it could be the TV
5 years is relatively young, but stuff can always go wrong.
Do you have anything else you can hook up to the TV via the same inputs as the TiVo? That is, if you're feeding video from TiVo to TV via the a/v inputs, disconnect the TiVo and plug something else in there instead (DVD player? VCR? PlayStation? whatever) and see if that does it too.
What's it look like? Can you grab a photo maybe?
