View Full Version : Spontaneous rebooting during transfers

I'm having increasing difficulty getting recordings transferred off the TiVo. More and more often, the TiVo will spontaneously reboot in mid-transfer. It only seems to do this during a transfer. If I use the TiVo for just watching TV and recording, it stays stable for days on end.
I just got the 7.3 upgrade today, and the reboots still happen. I downloaded the TiVo desktop as I wrote this post. Will that have any effect on these reboots?

Were you not using Tivo Desktop the whole time for transfers?

I usually leave TiVo Desktop running when I'm doing transfers. Should I exit it when I start a transfer?
I also try to limit my other computer activity while a transfer is in progress. Mostly just web browsing, if anything.
I downloaded the TiVo desktop as I wrote this post.
Do you mean you downloaded the TiVo desktop upgrade (version 2.3)?
Regards,
Tom

Sorry 'bout that. Yes. I got the update today. TiVo still rebooted.
It's rebooted at least five times in the last three hours while trying to transfer an episode of Good Eats. If I quit trying to transfer, the reboots will stop. This is making TivoToGo damn near useless to me now.

Bump with more information. Left the transfer running all night. It never finished. The TiVo will reboot after anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes in.
TiVo support suggested the wireless adapter may be an issue. I tried changing the wireless channel, and am attempting another transfer. (edit: didn't help... still rebooted)
I'm going to go to Best Buy later and get a wired adapter instead. Maybe that will help?
It most certainly did! I was using an 'unsupported' Linksys wireless G adapter, and switched to a supported Linksys USB200M wired adapter. Made all the difference. Transfer speed doubled, and no more reboots.

had the same exact problem - I switched to a wired adapter and never had it occur again
