View Full Version : Upgrading the single A drive a 2nd time...

I'm trying to upgrade a Pioneer 810H from the Weaknees upgraded 300 GB single A drive (probably started with 80 or less) to a 500 GB Drive.

The usefulness of the DVD burner is enormous, but it's nice to be able to store up most of a season before burning a few sets, etc.

Problem is that it already has 16 partitions on the single A drive (no room for a second drive). I have read that the current tools allow an A drive to be upgraded a few times (3-5 times?), but is this one "stuck" at 300 GB?

The reason it's such a big deal to upgrade it (rather than starting from scratch) is that this unit will ONLY burn video that it has recorded itself. (So if you had two identical units and copied files between the two, the only video available to burn is what was recorded BY the unit and anything that came externally, regardless of source, is deemed unburnable - way back when, I remember reading that it was a combination of politics and this bit about how it records video differently than a standard standalone Tivo, etc. - not really sure which is actually true because it's been set to ignore shows even if it came from another 810H)

So... how do the new tools work around the 16 partition limit and is it too late for this unit?

Thanks!

A S2 Tivo HD can be expanded exactly one time. That's it. It can be shrunk to the original size (that's what the -s in the backup command string does) then expanded, but you can not save any recordings when you do this.
