Got a freebie HD Tivo DVR on the NFL ST/SF deal and understand why that is considered a lease but; I purchased one from D* back in August that crashed with a bad hard drive recently. D* is sending a replacement but advise that it will probably be a refurbished unit and will be carried as leased. I asked for a new unit cause my input is HDMI/DVI. All they said was that I would get the right cable.
Is it worthwhile to argue with them about carrying it as leased? Are refurb units supposed to have had the HDMI cards replaced with the new improved version?

maybe not depends on reason why they were returned in the first place.. maybe new unit or refurbed they are just stating that's possible so you can't complain. but would argue on the lease of the one you purchased.

The only way the replacement unit will be considered "owned" is if you have DTV's protection plan. Otherwise all replacements sent out (unless the original unit was still under warranty) are leased, unless you pay a ridiculously large fee for the replacement unit.
