Here is my setup.

I have the Hr10-250 connected to a Pioneer Elite 74txvi through the HDMI cable. I am running my OTA through the tivo. The receiver is connected via HDMI into my TV.
Is there any reason to use anything other than the HDMI cables?

I was previously using the optical cables due to no HDMI on the SD tivo and having to run the OTA directly into my TV, then the Audio fro the optical out of the tv to the receiver.

It seems that not only does the HD tivo allow me to record in HD, but I just lost about 6 cables from the back of my TV,

Am I missing anything?

Thanks,
Hoops

The optical cable is usually used to connect the Tivo to a reciever. Connecting it to a TV using optical doesn't buy you much unless you are passing it through to a reciever or some other piece of equipment.

IIRC DD 5.1 doesn't transmit over the HDMI on the HR10-250

Do you think 6.2 would fix that if your 4 out of 5 rumor prediction comes true? BTW any news or updates on your rumor 6.2 for hr10-250 news Earl?

Earl,
is this only on the HR10-250?

I always thought HDMI did DD5.1.

Now I am a little confused. I am going to have to go and look to see if I can have the HDMI input used and assign the audio to a different input. I just assumed the receiver was going to grab the audio from the HDMI since it is there.

Kind of defeats the purpose of HDMI doesnt it?

This sucks!

Well it was a simple fix of adding the optical cable. I guess one more tiny wire isnt going to kill me.

Thanks for the info Earl.

I don't think a software update would be able to fix that, as it probably has more to do with the HDMI interface.... but I am not sure.

As for an update... no, haven't gotten one in about a month or so...

I have read messages that some people are decoding DD 5.1 over HDMI just fine.

Yes, I for one get 5.1 via HDMI from my HR10-250 to my JVC receiver just fine. I think most of the people claiming it doesn't work are those who tried to send a 5.1 signal to something that couldn't handle it--like a TV.

True, although a few people with Denon recievers have reported difficulty as well.
