I did some searching and didn't see an answer to this question...my apologies if I missed it.

I had a hard drive fail and go into the GSOD reboot cycle....obiviously a bad drive in the software part of the drive.

I ended up replacing the drive and wanted to know if there was any way of copying the show data from the failed drive.

I think the drive might be fine where the shows are located, but not where the TiVo software was located. I wouldn't mind if I could copy SOME of the recordings as there are some recordings that I've had on it for a long time...

Any ideas?

Thanks

The only way I know of is to recover your drive enough to get it to boot then transfer the shows another TiVo or to a PC with TiVo desktop This option only works for the series 2 TiVos however.

You could dd copy good system partitions over tot he bad drive, or copy the media partitions over to a good system drive.

You might want to give SpinRite a try. If the Tivo is in an endless reboot cycle between GSODs then the filesystem is probably too corrupt for the Tivo to repair itself. SpinRite will be able to recover the data the Tivo can't restore, assuming the clusters containing the data aren't totally shot.

Is the recovery of the TV programs worth $89(the cost of Spinrite). No guarantee that Spinrite will successfully recover it anyway.
