View Full Version : Dual Tuner - Guide - Both Sources?

Just bought a Series 2 Dual Tuner today (my Series 1 died last night after many years of faithful service, and I couldn't live a day without my TiVo!).

I notice that when I go to the Guide screen, I get a merged listing from both input sources. Also, when I channel surf (which I seldom do), the TiVo alternates between input sources - channel 3 on the box, 3 on cable, 4 on box, 4 on cable, etc.

Given that these sources are basically duplicates of each other, is there a way to get it to only show me the Guide (or only channel up/down) on the current source?

(Background: I'm with Time Warner Cable in New York and my analog cable channels have different channel numbers than the digital cable box - I was able to get both sources set up correctly thanks to the help on this forum!)

Thanks in advance,

Tracey

I don't have a DT, but one possible "fix" would be to uncheck all the channels that are available without a box from the box list.

My understanding is the DT can record from two "no box" channels at the same time anyway.

So the tivo only really needs to use the cable box if the channel is not available without it.

This way you don't run any risk of tivo tying up the cable box recording a high priority season pass on an analog channel (NBC), then not being able to record something else on a digital/scrambled channel (HBO)

Interesting... the TiVo does seem to prefer to record on the non-box channel if the program is available there, even if I selected the program from a box channel. Must be for this reason - so the HBO program doesn't get knocked out - makes sense.

But what if I'm trying to record programs on NBC and ABC, let's say? And the TiVo thinks they're only available non-box?

>> the DT can record from two "no box" channels at the same time

Really?? How? If I tell it NBC and ABC aren't available on the box, how would it know to go record one of them from there anyway???

The DT Tivo has two internal tuners, it only needs one coax cable attached and it splits the signal internally. If you didn't have a box at all, the one cable would be all you needed to allow the DT to record two channels at the same time.

If you deselect all the channels on the cablebox lineup that are available without the box, then the tivo should only use the box when it is actually needed.

Deselect the box channels of the lineup for what you have on basic cable. TIVO then always chooses basic cable for channels 2-99, even when recording two basic cable channels at the same time. It only goes to 100 and up for box recordings.
