I bought and just installed an HR10-250 DirecTivo receiver. A few questions:

1. I had the R10, which in the "now playing" section, allowed me to group progams into folders. I don't see that option on the HR10-250. Should the folder option be there? Will I at some point just get a software update that will add the feature?

2. Unlike the R10, there is not RF-out, which I had been using to my VCR to permit off loading some programs to a videotape on occassion when I needed to. Right now, I have my component video and RCA type audio cables going out from my DVR and my DVD player into the inputs in my television. How then do I hook up my DVR to my VCR (or DVR recorder when I buy one) so I can offloaded programs?

1) (The phrase if I only had a dime)...... Anyway, the HR10-250 doesn't have the grouping option. There is no update (as of right now) that is out there, that will give you that functionality

2) Other then a switch box, or an RF Modulator... that would be about it. You will also have to knock the output resolution of the HR10-250 to 480i for it to work on your VCR/DVD-Recorder

1. The folder option is not available with the 3.1.5 OS. It's anybody's guess if another OS update will ever be released for the HDTivos.

2. RF out is the least desirable way to transfer videos between devices, especially with HD programming. The S-video connection would provide the best transfer from your HDTivo to your VCR, assuming it has S-video inputs. Otherwise, use the composite video and audio connections. You should consider buying an outboard switcher to provide more connection options. You can get a 4X1 S-video switcher for less than $20 these days.

There are of course always budget issues, but if you are going to buy a new Audio-Video switcher, now may be the time to buy a new reciever. Any decent AV receiver will give you the ability to input several AV sources and switch them for you, and with the addition of some speakers you can then take advantage of surround sound.

Many receivers or preamplifers nowadays provide the ability to be watching one source while recording a different source. For example, I recently needed to record a couple shows from my HR10-250 to a VCR (one at a time, of course, with the output set to 480i). I was able to set the preamp to send that signal to the VCR while simultaneously watching my second DTivo box on the main TV. Even my 10-year-old Yamaha receiver has this capability. You could of course substitute a DVD recorder for the VCR in this scenario, something I will eventually do.

This type of setup really makes wiring and configuration easier, because everything is wired into the receiver/preamp and it does the switching; you don't need to run cables from every source unit to the VCR/DVD recorder directly. You can of course run higher-quality connections directly to the TV (component/hdmi/dvi) if your receiver/preamp doesn't provide switching capabilities for these, but you can still run the s-video and/or composite connections to the receiver/preamp for the recording scenario I outlined above. YMMV as not all receivers have this capability, but it is certainly a function I would look for if I was to upgrade.

If im not mistaken, you have 2 sets of composite outputs (the red, white, and yellow combination) going out of the tivo. Run one of those outputs into the , normally video 1 input on the back of your vcr. You will need to scroll through the various inputs on your vcr to get to the one that is plugged into the tivo.

If you have an HDTV and the HR10-250, I am going to guess you have a receiver of some sort for dolby digital audio????? NO? If you do, as others have suggested, this is an easy fix running everything through the receiver.

There is no folder option but at least there is a way to sort the now playing list alphabetically instead of by date.

While viewing the now playing list enter the following on the HR10-250 remote:
