It looks like I will be upgrading my hard drive. The installation instructions look pretty straightforward and, having previously installed a second HD in my desktop, I think I can manage the HD swap on the TiVo. However, I do have a couple questions on InstantCake and wireless options:

InstantCake
When I've installed a second HD in my desktop, it boots up fine and the second HD is recognized in Windows Explorer. When I use IC, will it see both HDs and ask me which HD I want to format with the TiVo software?

Wireless
I saw an interesting device at Best Buy today, the TiVo Wirelesss USB Adaptor (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7384314&type=product&id=1122654250546). Can I use this with the HD TiVo? I seem to recall reading something on the ptvUpgrade site that said I would need an additional wireless bridge of some sort, but the link did not have a photo or installation instructions. It also does not include the HD TiVo as a model it can be used on.

I would really like to have the content transfer and web management features here. Can someone point me in the right direction? If there's a thread/link with easy to follow instructions on upgrading the HD TiVo for wireless, I'd appreciate it if someone can direct me there.

Thanks!

You shouldn't boot into windows with the drive attached that you are putting in the TIVO. You should get Instant cake, boot up with that, and the instructions in the first screen will tell you how to hook up your hard drive and cd drive. Very straightforward. Since you booted into windows, I don't know if you'll now need to unlock your drive before you can format it for Tivo. Can someone verify that for me???

As for adding the wireless USB, there is a patch that you can get from PTVUpgrades that will enable those features for you. You need to get that as well if you intend on using those things (ie. ftp, tivoweb, etc). Hope that helps.

InstantCake will give you the ability to create a one or two drive pair to be installed in your TiVo to replace your existing drive. It offers no networking capabilities whatsoever.

If you want to install/configure USB networking drivers, that is where PTVnet comes in. The drivers do not provide support for any USB wireless Ethernet adapters, including the one by TiVo. In order to achieve wireless networking with an HR10-250, you could use PTVnet, in combination with a USB 2.0 Ethernet adapter and a wireless bridge or gaming adapter.

As a general rule, you don't want to boot windows OS with a TiVo drive attached (unless you plan on reimaging it anyway).
