I purchased an HR 10-250 about a year ago and have been happy. I was able to receive my locals ota hd just fine. A couple of months later I ordered up sd locals that had just become available. When the tech installed the new single satellite dish, he also installed a switch to incorporate my pre-existing 3 satellite phase III dish. But he used the wrong switch. He used the switch that is for a single satellite dish setup ("A" sat only). About a week after the instal I noticed I didn't have my b or c satellite channels, so I called directv and had them come out and instal the correct switch. But when the second tech came out, he left the old switch screwed to the wall and just screwed the coax sat cables into the new switch, leaving the new switch dangling by the cables (I'm not kidding). I saw it, but thought I'd take care of it later. 9 months later, it's still dangling, but now I'm losing sat 1 or sat 2, sometimes sat 1 & 2 from time to time. I closely examined the screw connectors on the ends of the coax cables, and they appear to be pulling apart from the weight of the switch. So I called directv customer service to ask for a service call to mount the new switch finally and have them re-do the screw connectors at the ends of the coax cables. She said it would be $70 for a service call. I asked her, "you're gonna charge me to correct your mistake?" She said, "yeap, the work was only guaranteed for 90 days." I asked for her manager, and he said they could do it for a $50 discount, so $20.

Should I continue to try to get a free service call? Or just accept a $20 service call?

Well, in hindsight, you should have called right away for shoddy work. If you've waited 9 months, I'd say $20 is a reasonable deal.

You could always just attach it to the wall yourself. You might even be able to take the old switch down and put the new one in using the same mounting holes.

I would just pay a 'real' installer to fix it. These 'installers' make peanuts and aren't very good. I had one one (only becuase DirecTV MADE ME), wouldn't fish the wires, left the switch hanging instead of properly mounting it, didn't ground ANYTHING, I ended up having to redo it myself.

I'm moving and plan to do the install myself, bought a good pair of compression crimpers...
