For a long time I have been deleting most of the suggestions Tivo has been recording for me. The odd one I like and keep, but not very many it seems. I realise that the thumbs up/down choice has an effect on what it records, but I'm sure the suggestions could be improved.

Some new programmes/films come up that will be generally popular and alot of Tivo owners will set them to record. Does Tivo take into account what its users are recording when it makes suggestions ?

I have a feeling it doesn't at the moment. I would welcome the odd popular programme recorded that I may have missed being advertised.

Although users' viewing data can be uploaded to TiVo on US models, that ability is always switched off on UK models. I believe that the data is only used for anonymous market research, and is never downloaded in any way to other users.

Suggestions are always treated as the personal taste of the individual viewer. If you use thumbs, it is advisable to stick between the range of -1 to +3. The other negative values can cause you to miss more than you intended, because the genres that it marks the thumbs against can cover a wide range of programmes.

If it recorded popular stuff you'd get nothing but Corrie, EastEnders and Big Brother.

BTW You don't need to delete Suggestions; Tivo will do that for you.
