My modem is down (uk version of tivo) and can therefore no longer update schedules. Tivo Customer care have suggested a company in Northern Ireland to repair the modem.

I am aware of ethernet networking as a possibility - tivo customer care said they were aware that it could be done but couldn't tell me how for reasons of policy.

I have a mac and a router (netgear) so i'm wireless.

I saw some photos on the community forum showing an ethernet connection cable connecting an ibook and tivo. Anyway I tried to follow instructions but although there was a hole when i opened the tivo there was no ethernet socket!

I can't stand live telly - please help.

You have to fit an addin card which also requires software to be loaded on Tivo's hard drive to reference it.

Easy way out is to order a hard drive upgrade and turbonet / cache card already configured to update via the new network connection rather than by the internal modem.

Most people these days go for a Cachecard as, in addition to being the fastest network card, it also allows you to add up to 512MB of RAM to 'cache' the TiVo database and speed up the TiVo menus.

This is particularly useful if you take the opportunity to upgrade to a drive > 200gb as the menus can get pretty slow when a big drive starts to fill up with recordings;)

i bought a tivo with cachecard on ebay - the menus are very fast - i'm very happy with it.

Ive just updated via tivo heaven my drive, I choose mode 0 as well..
Is it as simple to just order a cachecard with some extra ram, stick it in??

Will it be configured to my network settings?
Also.. I will need a wireless link.. what do you suggest I use?
