Maybe I'm misunderstanding some info, but after a few days of browsing, I'm wondering if I'm reading conflicting information, or just comprehending incorrectly...

Okay, I got a DSR704 (series 2 DirecTivo) off eBay. It does not have a hard drive.

The notes for PTVupgrade's LBA48 CD indicate you can use a >137GB drive in any Series2 DirecTV Unit running version 6.X or newer of the TiVo OS.

Since I don't have a hard drive, I was just planning on getting InstantCake, and select the 6.2 version. By selecting version 6.2, I should then be able to use the LBA48 CD to install a huge drive, right?

Is there a flaw in my logic? I saw several posts indicating that you simply could not use >137GB in a DSR704.

Any TiVo can use a >137GB HD

You shouldn't need the LBA48 boot cd when using Instant Cake.

Really? That's good news. There were all sorts of responses in the LBA48 boot disk thread (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=198444) that indicated you just couldn't get more than 137GB out of a DSR704. Maybe those were just replies to old information.

Well, I had already ordered a 160GB drive (expecting to use only 137 of it), but now I think I'll return it and get a larger one. Thanks!
