View Full Version : How can I adjust the TIVO call time?

After experiencing some problems with my telephone connection (now resolved) I find that Tivo is making its daily call in the afternoon and not early hours as previously.

I'm not sure if Tivo still uses a free phone number to update but regardless, I would prefer the updating to happen when we are all asleep.

Is there a way to adjust the time it calls (or a work around)?

Thanks!

Joe

Nope, it shifts the time of the daily call after every call.

Thanks!

So by that logic if I forced a call in the early hours it would take that time for its next attempt?

Cheers!

Yes, though it will keep moving a little later, after a week it would be calling in the early morning, in a couple of weeks it would be back to during the day.

It schedules the start of the next call to be 24 hours after the end of the previous call. Therefore, it moves later each day by the elapsed time of the call, which would be somewhat less if you updated over a broadband connection.

Hmmmm.....!

Now I do have a 10mb broadband service. It would be good to make use of that now.

I take it that is where this turbonet card I read about comes in? Is there an faq or some guidance resource here that I can learn about setting-up turbonet?

Also puzzled about the cache thing I see mentioned here.

I'll catch up with a little help - Cheers!

10 milli-bits? I hope you aren't paying very much for it. ;)

There are three commonly used network cards - turbonet, the slightly cheaper terbonet [sic] and the more expensive cachecard that also has space for some additional memory.

Cachecard is the best and most expensive option (Ebay was my source). As well as giving you a network connection you can add 521MB RAM and TiVo then stores its database in there, making browsing through through things on screen (eg Now Playing) just as fast with 48 pages as it does with 2 pages.

TiVo's next daily call is just over 24hrs after the previous one. The 'bit more' than 24 hours depends on how long the data takes to download and process etc.

But TiVo normally prevents itself from dialling out between 9am and 6pm during the week.

If you do a daily call just after midnight - you'll find that nearly two weeks later the call is still in the morning.
