tivo w/out phone line or wireless

Hi, i tried searching for this, but im not exactly sure how to describe my problem. My family purchased our first tivo about a year ago, and we all love it. However, in august i am going to college and i am going to be living in my own apartment. My whole family has already agreed that we are buying a second tivo, because my family can't part with ours, and i can't be in my apartment with out a tivo. anyway, my problem is in my apartment we aren't going to have phone service because we all have cell phones, and it would really just be pointless. We will have cable internet, however, it isn't wireless. Just the other day i started thinking how i ws going to pulg in tivo to update, is there some other way to plug tivo in to update? I can't imagine not having tivo. my dad brought up the option of just buying a dvr through the cable company, but i feel like would be cheating on tivo, and i also think i would be very dissapointed with the features. Thanks so much for any advice.

You don't have to be wireless, it can be wired. You have cable internet so the cable modem is probably fairly close to the TV.

You need a USB-to-ethernet adaptor. Check tivo.com for a list of approved adaptors.

thank you all for your help. However, i'm not that technology smart. could someone explain exactly how i would plug in the cord, and would i plug it into my cable? thanks again for all your help

Since you will probably just have one one cable modem in the apartment, buy a router, then connect the router to the cable modem to share the connection. From the router you connect a Cat 5 ethernet cable to the TiVo unit and you are pretty much done.

If the router is in a common area, get a wireless unit and go with a TiVo Branded wireless adapter ($49.99 Compusa) and use it that way.

Man if I had TiVo in college I might have stayed awake in class...
