I have a Sony Grand Wega (KF-60XBR800 ) - when I set my HR10-250 to anything other than 480i my screen goes black. I still get audio, but no video.
What do I have to do to get the better picture?
What kind of cables are you using to connect the HR10-250 to the television?
If you have the receiver connected to anything additional (vcr) with non-hd type cables, disconnect them and then try it. This model doesn't support simultaneous HD and SD output so if anything is connected with any non-hd cables you wont be able to view HD until they are removed.

It would be nice to share the solution here so that future viewers searching here will find it.

It was pretty simple. I had everything plugged in correctly video-wise, but the audio was feeding into Video 1 ports instead of Video 7 ports where the HD Video signal was plugged in. Stupid on my part. Just had to move the audio cables to align with Vid. 7 and tada 1080i is now my friend.

So it wasn't really a video problem, but an audio one. :)

Sounds like it wasn't either, but a connection problem - if you want to be specific!

If you hook the Tivo's HDMI out to the TV's HDMI in, will the Tivo's optical out send the audio to the receiver? I'd want the video signal sent to the TV but the audio sent to my receiver. Can this be done? Or does the HDMI disable the optical out? (Don't have the HR10-250 but am seriously considering it).

Connectiing HDMI does not disable the optical audio. I use both on my system.
